A former New Orleans police officer, gunned down. The NOPD says 47 year old Willie Jones Jr. was found dead behind the wheel of his car on Chef Menteur Highway early Sunday morning. It happened a little after five. According to police, Jones was involved in a traffic accident on Interstate 10, then took the Chef Menteur exit, lost control of his car and hit a fence. That’s where they found him but police aren’t sure where the shots were fired. One man who says he heard the commotion, thinks it happened off of the interstate. Thomas Hazet says, “I heard a bunch of shots and I was getting my newspaper and I made it back inside and I heard the shots and about five minutes later or less, I heard a lot of police cars.” If you know anything about the shooting, you’re asked to call crimestoppers at 822-1111. I know this is an old article, but my prayers and thoghts go out to his family. I was stunned to find out about Officer Jones. He was loved by many and is sadly missed. My only question is, 'after all these years, why hasn't his murderers been brought to justice'? NOPD was quick to bring him to justice on his battery charge, so what's the problem? I pray Justice is served for him.R.I.P. my friend.

  3. I met Willie Jones Jr at Homestead AFB Florida in 1981. We became roommates and best friends. Willies passion was football while stationed at Homestead, boy could he run! One of the nicest young men I ever met. I saw a episode on Cops the TV show and spotted him, I was shocked that he went into law enforcement. I lost contact with him after leaving Florida going to Germany. He had this white Camaro that he loved and took care of on a daily basis. We drove to Disney World many times in that car having fun just getting away from the base. I was shocked to hear the sad news while surfing the internet trying to locate him. My prayers goes out to his family and friends! Take care my friend. Darris Finley!
