NOW THAT HER CHARGES HAVE BEEN ALTERED - TO GET HER OUT OF THE STATE'S MANDATORY 20 YEAR SENTENCE FOR SHOOTING AT HER HUSBAND - THEY ARE EVEN WORKING DOWN THE MANDATORY SENTENCE FOR HER REDUCED CHARGE.

[Excerpts] The estranged wife of Fort Lauderdale Police Chief Frank Adderley may be a week away from accepting a plea deal that could help her avoid significant prison time, attorneys told a Broward County judge Friday. Eleanor Adderly, 45, is accused of shooting at her husband in their Plantation home last year and chasing him to a neighbor's house. Circuit Judge Matthew Destry had expected an announcement of a plea deal Friday, but Adderley's attorney, David Bogenschutz, said he is awaiting psychiatric test results that could aid efforts in a possible plea deal. The results might be used to persuade prosecutors to lessen the charges against Adderley, who faces a 3 years mandatory sentence if convicted of shooting into an occupied dwelling, a second-degree felony, and third-degree aggravated assault... On July 8, she took several shots at her husband with his own gun while he was in bed, police said... Adderley told police she was just trying to scare her husband. Since the incident, Adderley has been out on bond, paid for by her husband. Authorities have kept tabs on her with an ankle monitor. Prosecutors stopped short of charging Adderley with the much more serious offense of attempted murder. That decision drew criticism from some observers... [Full article here]
