...A felony family violence case has been dismissed against a Dallas police sergeant [Brian Deininger] after his former girlfriend recanted her original allegation that the officer choked her...

(Would they have arrested a police sgt. on a choking allegation - that she had been choked with BOTH hands - with no marks on her neck? Just asking.)

[Excerpts] A Dallas police officer was arrested Saturday night on suspicion of felony assault; he’s accused of choking a woman in an apartment... Brian Deininger, an 11-year veteran, was arrested shortly before midnight and jailed with bail set at $1,500 on the third-degree felony charge, which is punishable upon conviction by two to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine... Police and county jail records show that Deininger, 34, was “not sober” when arrested and that he [was] choking the woman during an argument, “causing pain and restricting her airway”... the charge was made as a family violence assault. Monday morning, the woman gave detectives a written statement retracting her allegations, police said. [Excerpts] ...[Dallas police officer Brian William Deininger] allegedly choked his girlfriend, 30, with both hands... But on Monday morning, detectives in the case received a written statement from the woman retracting her initial allegation... The criminal case against Deininger was dismissed and the arrest charge was released after the woman's retraction... A woman who identified herself as Deininger's former girlfriend called the Star-Telegram on Monday afternoon and said she has requested that the charges be dropped and that any accusations of assault be retracted. "There was no assault that took place," the woman said. She said the circumstances on the night of Deininger's arrest were "hazy" and that she didn't know what she was agreeing to until the morning after she made the accusatio...
