MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Police said a retired Springfield Ohio police officer was shot to death by his 13-year-old son Tuesday while the family was vacationing in South Carolina. Howard W. Ayers was found dead in the rear bedroom of a camper, according to a report from the Horry County Police Department. The boy and Howard's police captain wife, Teresa, told officers on the scene that Ayers was beating her, according to the Myrtle Beach Sun News. A police report said the boy eventually "did grab the gun from her and shot Howard Ayers."...
