U.S. Marshals Offering a Reward of Up to $25,000 for Hiers

The United States Marshals Service is now offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest of Dan Hiers, Jr. Hiers, who was added to the Marshals’ Top 15 list in June 2005, is the subject of a Dorchester County, SC warrant for Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor and a Goose Creek, SC warrant for murder. The last confirmed sighting of Hiers was the day of Ludimilia Hiers’ murder, March 15, 2005. In announcing the increased reward, United States Marshal Johnny Mack Brown said, “Our investigation has developed information that Hiers received assistance from associates in the days following the murder of his wife.

We are hopeful that increasing the reward will encourage anyone who knows about this contact to come forward. The identity of anyone providing information will be kept confidential.” Anyone with information should call the United States Marshals Service at 803-765-5477 or 1-800-336-0102. [AZ] Officer DeStefano's repeat dv, and dui get him fired

A few months ago Marana Police Officer John Michael Destefano Jr. was arrested for dui after landing in a ditch, a week later was arrested for domestic violence on his wife (drunk then also) and was arrested a few years ago for dv as well. He's fired. My prayers go out to him and his family. It's sad no matter which way you turn it. There's more to life than police work though, and recovery can be a rich experience if you want it. May the best thing - whatever that is - happen for everyone involved.

David Passaro was in the Special Forces group at Fort Bragg - taking leave to become a contractor for the CIA in Afghanistan. Before that, he was a police officer in Hartford, Connecticut and fired less than six months into the job when he was arrested by the Connecticut State Police. There is no record of what the charges were. He is accused of beating an Afghani man who later "died." He was let out of jail Friday at the order of a federal judge to help his attorneys get ready for his trial. but was immediately re-arrested on 3 charges related to a domestic violence incident with his ex-girlfriend Wake Forest Detective Bonnie Heart. His former wife Kerry says that she was also abused and his former stepson says that he was also beaten as the dead Afghani man - with a flashlight.

The Sheriff's "grab" & "shove" left a "scratch" on his wife's face and a red mark "around" her arm that was still there when the police arrived. (He was gone by then.) The judge bowed out. The lawyer bowed out. They've both been replaced, the case just went to the grand jury, and the judge is going to think about it over the weekend - whether charges should be filed

or not.

EMBATTLED DAYTON POLICE OFFICER MICHAEL BLAKE HAS CALLED IT QUITS, ACCUSED BY INTERNAL AFFAIRS OF LYING ABOUT THE DEATH OF HIS WIFE. WHILE HE IS TECHNICALLY AN EMPLOYEE UNTIL THE END OF JULY, BLAKE WILL NOT GET PAID UNDER THE TERMS OF AN AGREEMENT HE SIGNED WITH THE CITY.

BLAKE SHOT AND KILLED HIS WIFE NIEMA TWO YEARS AGO DURING A VIOLENT ARGUMENT IN THEIR NORTH EUCLID HOME. BLAKE ARGUED HE ACTED IN SELF-DEFENSE, AND A GRAND JURY REFUSED TO INDICT HIM.

BLAKE ALSO MADE A PUBLIC APOLOGY TO HIS LATE WIFE.

"I'D LIKE TO SAY FIRST I WANT TO APOLOGIZE TO MY WIFE, NIEMA. NIEMA BABY, I'M VERY SORRY AND I TRULY HOPE YOU CAN FORGIVE ME FOR I HAVE TRULY FORGIVEN YOU. IT IS TRULY HARD TO ACCEPT WHAT HAS HAPPENED AND THAT YOU'RE REALLY GONE. THERE'S NOT A DAY THAT GOES BY THAT I DON'T THINK ABOUT YOU, MISS YOU, OR LOVE YOU," IS WHAT BLAKE READ TO THE MEDIA AT THE TIME OF THE STATEMENT.

BUT IN RECORDS OBTAINED BY 2NEWS, IT IS CLEAR CITY AND POLICE INVESTIGATORS KEPT PRESSING BLAKE FOR THE TRUTH. THE CITY FILED DISCIPLINARY CHARGES AGAINST HIM LATE LAST YEAR AFTER AN INTERNAL AFFAIRS PROBE.

IN THAT INVESTIGATION, INTERNAL AFFAIRS TOLD BLAKE HE WAS CHARGED WITH CONDUCT UNBECOMING AN OFFICER AND THAT ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS HE HAD GIVEN INTERNAL AFFAIRS UNTRUTHFUL OR FALSE STATEMENTS.

AS PART OF HIS RESIGNATION AGREEMENT, BLAKE AGREED THAT HE WILL NOT ATTEMPT TO GET ANOTHER JOB WITH THE CITY OF DAYTON.

THERE HAS BEEN NO COMMENT FROM NIEMA BLAKE'S FAMILY.

Carli Anne Bitterman Dennis, 30, of Wyoming, died Monday, Feb. 27, 2006, at home.

She was the wife of Jeffery J. Dennis. She was born in Auburn, N.Y., on Jan. 4, 1976.

She was a daughter of Jill C. Tomandl Bitterman, Fort Myers, Fla., and William R. and Susan M. Bitterman, Clarks Summit.

She was a 1994 graduate of Abington Heights Senior High School.

She also attended Keystone Jr. College. She was employed by the Luzerne County Communication Center since 1998.

Her husband, Jeff, wants Carli to be remembered by her family and friends for her love of life and all it had to offer.

Her love for hunting and fishing and her dispatching police, fire and ambulance is what she will be remembered for most. Carli was active in the law enforcement community and her goal someday was to be a police officer.

Her willingness to participate in life and all it had to offer and her ability to make those around her make them shine is what Carli thought life was all about.

Also surviving are her grandmothers Betty Tomandl, Auburn, N.Y.; Mary Bower, Scranton; stepgrandmother Doris Parry, Clarks Summit; a stepsister Jill Price Brogan and her husband, Tom, Scranton; stepbrother Harold Price and his wife, Kimberly, Clarks Summit; several aunts, uncles, cousins and a niece.

Carli will be joined in Heaven with her beloved Poppy, John J. Tomandl; aunt Nancy Bitterman Pelicci; her gog and pop, Phyllis and John Laskos; grandpa, Jesse A. Bitterman; and cousin John Michael Tomandl.

Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday from the Metcalfe and Shaver Funeral Home Inc., 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Name/St. Mary’s Church, Swoyersville.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Memorial contributions may be made to SPCA of Luzerne County, 524 E. Main St., Fox Hill, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
