WIFE RECANTS; CHARGES DISMISSED AGAINST OFFICER HUSBAND
Des Moines Register
October 15, 2008
Charges have been dropped against a Des Moines police officer who earlier was accused of assaulting his wife. Officer Clay Blanchard's wife, Angela, later said it didn't happen, officials said. The Polk County Attorneys Office dismissed the charges on Tuesday. Officer Clay Blanchard, 56, of Des Moines, was charged in late June with domestic assault causing injury, second-degree harassment and obstructing an emergency phone call. He was taken to the Polk County Jail. Blanchard's wife, Angela, 40, was not seriously injured, police said at the time. Earlier reports said that Angela Blanchard came back to the couple's residence on a Friday evening and they argued. Her husband began yelling at her and demanded her cell phone, a police report said. When Angela refused, the two wrestled for the phone and she threatened to call police, officers said at the time. Blanchard then was alleged to have taken her cell phone. His wife called police from their home phone. [LINK]
