A 46-year-old Boston firefighter who was charged yesterday with chasing and kicking his stepdaughter during a domestic dispute will remain on duty while his case is pending, according to the Fire Department. Eugene B. Fortes was charged in Roxbury District Court with disorderly conduct and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon for the Tuesday night attack outside his Roxbury home. He was released on his own personal recognizance. Fortes, who makes $92,000 a year, has been a Boston firefighter for 12 years, said spokesman Steve MacDonald. He is the sixth Boston firefighter in eight months to be arrested and charged with a crime. According to a police report, Fortes' 20-year-old stepdaughter, who had been kicked out last week after a fight with Fortes, returned to pick up her belongings at about 7:30 p.m. Fortes began to argue with her because she was checking the mail, and then allegedly chased her up the street and kicked her once in the thigh, according to the report. [Eugene Britto] Fortes was released on personal recognizance and is scheduled to return to court on Dec. 4, said spokesman Jake Wark... When officers arrived and rang the door bell, Fortes and his wife opened and closed the door, police said. Fortes then allegedly yelled, "Summons me to court and I'll show up." More police officers arrived, and after 15 minutes of negotiating, the woman allowed them in the apartment, police said. The police said Fortes then allegedly told the officers, "I admit, I was upset. I chased her, and I kicked her." He was then arrested... [Full article here]

[Excerpts] ...She told police that she was told to move out of Fortes' residence at 8 Robey St. on Friday, after a verbal fight with Fortes. She was picking up her belongings last night at the home when Fortes began to argue with her because she was checking the mail, according to the police report. Fortes then sat on the front porch steps and as the alleged victim tried to leave, Fortes allegedly blocked her path forcing her to "squeeze" by, according to the report. "The victim states that the suspect then chased her up the street and kicked her one time to the right thigh area before fleeing back inside the residence," according to a police report... A woman who answered the phone at the Robey Street home said Fortes was "out of town" and then hung up the phone. Fortes will remain on duty with the Boston Fire Department pending the outcome of his case... [Full article here]

  1. What your website fails to account for is the self-serving, biased media. The story of Eugene Fortes is FAR from accurate in the news. The woman assaulted him, in front of her mother (his wife), then went to police to have Fortes arrested in her frustration. The girl's own mother was behind Fortes the whole time, because he is innocent and a good man; however that does not make for a good story, and you are an ignorant fool for taking such hearsay trash as fact. Check the police report - he never said that he kicked her either. Your website, at least in this instance and probably in others is a lie and is as harmful to peoples lives and reputations as your supposed abuses. Nobody condones violence, but you cannot ruin a good man, with awards for saving lives, based on NO real evidence. Your site has no creditability at the moment.

    2. For the sake of the blog, I'm going to say that of course, that is hearsay. The reason I allowed it through is because police and firefighters should be drug tested anyway. Then nobody could say that they are a crackhead. Their respective unions protect them from being tested, but why? They have complete power to change the complete direction of people's lives or to kill them. They should be drug tested and have yearly lie detector tests, and if it's indicated by that they need more, also psych evals.

  4. Got a comment about sexual assault that I can't approve because if they don't take it to court it's not fair to anyone to accuse such serious things anonymously online. Imagine if you or someone you love was accused publicly, but left no name.
