Trial set for former sheriff’s deputy in battery case

Douglas County District Judge Peggy Kittel has set a Jan. 7 jury trial in the misdemeanor domestic battery case involving a former Douglas County Sheriff’s deputy.
Prosecutors accuse Matthew Douglas, 35, Eudora, with making contact with a family member on Sept. 14 in a “rude, insulting or angry manner.”
Franklin County Attorney Heather Jones is the special prosecutor in the case.
Douglas remains free on $750 bond. After his arrest, Douglas was placed on paid administrative leave.
Undersheriff Steve Hornberger said Friday that Douglas no longer was a sheriff’s office employee.
