SILVER SPRINGS SHORES - A former Marion County sheriff's deputy accused of kicking his wife in the leg and dragging her through a living room has been charged with domestic battery. When Deputy Jason Simmons arrived at Paul Adam Swartout's Silver Springs Shores home on Wednesday, Swartout's wife was sitting in the garage. She showed the deputy a bruise, which was starting to turn purple, on her right leg and told the deputy her husband had kicked her, according to a Sheriff's Office report. She told the deputy her husband was yelling at her because she took a Xanax tablet. She said she had been sleeping on the couch when he woke her up by banging pots and pans. He then reportedly dragged her from the living room, threw her on the floor and kicked her on the leg. Swartout was then taken to the Marion County Jail. Personnel records show Swartout, a former deputy, had been hired by the Sheriff's Office in May 2002 and fired in March 2009. [LINK]
