[Excerpt] A Memphis police officer was arrested early Friday morning after pulling a gun on her husband during a domestic dispute. Police reported that Rosemary Small, 47, was off-duty and arguing with her husband on Thursday night at their home on the 3000 block of Dothan Street. At about 10:30 p.m., she retrieved a gun from their car and pointed it at her husband's face, according to a police affidavit. Small, an MPD officer for 23 years, was charged with aggravated assault for the incident. She posted $1,000 bond and was released from Shelby County jail on Friday. [Excerpts] In 2009, Rockingham County Sheriff Dan Linehan and Deputy Sheriff Mark Peirce resigned while under investigation for allegedly leaking to the media information about sheriff candidate David Lovejoy's criminal record. Immediately following their resignations Lovejoy sued Linehan, Peirce and a Portsmouth Herald reporter, who published a story that revealed Lovejoy had a domestic assault conviction that had subsequently been annulled. Lovejoy argued that despite the fact he was campaigning to be the county's top law enforcement officer the public had no right to know about his domestic assault conviction because he had the case annulled. Lovejoy was able to do all this mischief because the state's annulment laws were muddled at best and gave the impression that simply speaking or publishing information about an annulled record was a criminal misdemeanor... Under the new law journalists, and by extension members of the public, are now protected from civil and criminal penalties for reporting someone's criminal record, regardless of whether they have worked the legal system to have the case annulled. News organizations and others are also no longer required to remove stories or police logs from their online archives if a case is annulled. In New Hampshire, telling the truth is once again fully legal... From now on if you are entering a business deal, renting an apartment, hiring an employee or even going on a date you'll be able to find out the truth about someone's criminal record. No longer will the law force us to pretend not to know something we know is true. People make mistakes and commit crimes. But the road to redemption should never have included denial of the truth. The new law, which took effect yesterday, also protects journalists who report about a record they're unaware has been annulled. Under the new law, news organizations have no obligation to remove reports about someone's record from public access or to make corrections to the reports if the person's record is later annulled... [Excerpts] Authorities say an unstamped train ticket found among an ex-girlfriend's belongings unraveled a half-century-old alibi and led to the arrest of a Seattle man in connection with the slaying of a 7-year-old Illinois girl in 1957. Jack Daniels McCullough, 71, is being held in King County Jail in lieu of $3 million bail and is awaiting extradition to Illinois, according to a statement by the Dekalb County State's Attorney Clay Campbell. He has been charged with murder in the death of Maria Ridulph in Sycamore, Ill. McCullough, who changed his name from John Tessier in 1994, is a longtime Washington state resident who served as a police officer in Lacey and Milton, according to a document of probable cause. When he was arrested this week, he was working as the night watchman at The Four Freedoms House of Seattle, a 300-unit retirement home in North Seattle... McCullough, who was 18 at the time, was an early suspect but had an alibi... [Excerpts] The 71-year-old Seattle man arrested last week in connection with the 1957 murder of a 7-year-old Illinois girl has a history of sexually abusing young girls, according to documents filed in King County District Court. Jack Daniels McCullough, a former policeman in two Western Washington cities, was arrested Wednesday at his home... The affidavit of probable cause, however, paints a picture of a man who, when he was growing up, allegedly molested a female relative as well as girls who lived in his neighborhood in the town of Sycamore, Ill... After he moved to Washington state as an adult, the papers also say he was fired from the Milton Police Department after he was accused of sexually assaulting a teenage runaway... [Excerpts] A Washington state man charged with the 1957 slaying of an Illinois girl [7-year-old Maria Ridulph] has a history of sexual and emotional abuse claims against him - one of which cost him his job as a police officer... McCullough, as a police officer in the early 1980s, was accused of sexually molesting a runaway who was 13 or 14... Other witnesses and an ex-wife of McCullough's claim he sexually or emotionally abused them and that at one time he allegedly had a photography business in which he invited prostitutes into his home to photograph them nude. Maria disappeared in the early evening of Dec. 3, 1957 from a street corner in Sycamore. Playmate Kathy Chapman, now 61 and living in St. Charles, Ill., has said a man who called himself "Johnny" approached and offered piggyback rides to the girls... Maria's body, so decomposed a cause of death could not be determined, was discovered in April 1958 in Jo Daviess County, about 120 miles away. McCullough, who at the time went by the name John Tessier, claimed he was in Rockford and Chicago that da... The affidavit includes several accusations of sexual abuse... Another girl claimed he "habitually molested her outdoors behind tall bushes." According to the affidavit, the girl said she knew he was "doing that to other neighborhood girls as well, because he would bring her along to act as a lookout while he did so." [Excerpts] ...Maria was the youngest of four children born to Michael and Frances Ridulph, who lived in a white frame house with blue shutters at 616 Archie Place ** in Sycamore, a rural town of 7,000 people 68 miles west of Chicago. The Ridulphs had two older daughters, Patricia 16, and Kay, 15, and a son, Charles, 11. Although many people lived or worked on farms, Michael had a job at one of the few factories in town. The missing girl was a second-grader with dark brown hair and brown eyes, the Chicago Tribune said. She was 44 inches tall, weighed 53 pounds, got good grades and received awards for perfect attendance in Sunday school at Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. John. According to her mother, Maria was high-strung. "My daughter was a nervous girl and if she got in any trouble would become hysterical," Frances said. "Someone would probably have to kill her to keep her quiet. I am the only one who could calm her down." She was a "screamer," her mother said, and afraid of being alone in the dark... According to Mrs. Thomas Cliffe and a neighbor, Stanley Wells, Maria and Cathie were screaming as they chased each other around the trunk of a huge elm tree a little before 7 p.m., Dec. 3, 1957... [EXCERPTS] Tacoma detectives are looking into the background of a 71-year-old Seattle man arrested recently in the abduction and slaying of a young Illinois girl more than 50 years ago to see whether he could be tied to any similar types of unsolved cases in the city.... Among the city's unsolved slayings are the 1986 deaths of JENNIFER BASTIAN and MICHELLA WELCH. Welch, 12, was found slain in the North End's Puget Park on March 26, 1986; Bastian, 13, was found slain in Point Defiance Park in Aug. 28 after she'd been missing for nearly a month. Both had been riding their bikes at the time they disappeared... Besides Welch and Bastian, there are several other unsolved slayings and disappearances involving girls in Pierce County. Among them:

• ADRE'ANNA JACKSON, 10. Her remains were found in April 2006 in a vacant lot in Lakewood, four months after she'd disappeared while on her way to Tillicum Elementary School.
• ANNA LEE CHEBETNOY, 14. Her body was found in September 1991 near Enumclaw, more than a year after she was last seen at a Puyallup shopping center.
• KIMBERLY DELANGE, 15. Her body was found in August 1988 near Enumclaw, a month after she disappeared. She also had been last seen at the same shopping center in Puyallup as Chebetnoy, and her body was found in the same location where Chebetnoy's would be found in 1991.
• SHANNON L. PEASE, 15. Her body was found in April 1988 in a field in Lakewood. She's believed to have disappeared from Ponders Corner in the Tacoma area.
• TEEKAH LEWIS, 2 1/2. She disappeared Jan. 23, 1999, from a Tacoma bowling alley, where she was last seen playing near the video games. She's not been found.
• MISTY D. COPSEY, 14. She was last seen Sept. 17, 1992, at a bus stop in Puyallup after a day at the Puyallup Fair. Her jeans, a pair of panties and a sock were later found near Highway 410 in February 1993 but she's never been found.

More trouble between a Belle police officer and his ex-wife. Charleston police arrested Jennifer Totten today for falsely reporting an emergency incident. Totten claimed her then husband -- Daniel Dodd -- hit her in the face during an argument back in March. Earlier this month, Totten claimed her husband had been contacting her by e-mail -- which is a violation of his parole. The Kanawha County Sheriff's Department later found that Totten had logged in as Dodd and sent threatening messages to herself. She is being held at the Southwestern Regional Jail on a $10,000 dollar cash bond. [LINK]

[Excerpts] Felony witness intimidation charges have been dropped against a former Belle police officer after his ex-wife admitted she lied to police about receiving threatening messages from the officer. Daniel Adam Dodd, 28, was charged with felony witness intimidation, stalking and harassment after his ex-wife, Jenny Totten, told police he had threatened her during an instant messenger conversation on her computer. He had been on administrative leave before resigning from the Belle Police Department in early June. Totten was arrested late Tuesday and charged with filing a false police report. A Kanawha County magistrate set her bond at $10,000 cash. The alleged conversation violated a domestic violence petition that forbids Dodd from having any direct or indirect contact with Totten. The order stems from a March domestic battery incident where he allegedly slapped her after she posted a comment on a memorial website for her late boyfriend... After the March incident, Dodd was charged with one count of domestic battery... Weeks later, Dodd was charged with felony witness intimidation, stalking and harassment after Totten showed police computer messages between herself and Dodd where he allegedly threatened her life. On Saturday, however, a forensic evaluation of the computer belonging to Totten showed that she had logged in to Dodd's Yahoo! messenger account and sent herself the threatening messages... [WV] Belle Police Officer Cox, who reportedly blackened girlfriend's eye, was afterwards crowned police chief - Yesterday I posted on Belle Police Officer Daniel Dodd who was arrested again for domestic violence. Dodd was put on administrative leave by the Belle police chief. It was brought to my attention that the police chief of Belle, Darrick Cox - before he was made chief - had his own reported domestic violence incident. As a Belle police officer Cox punched his girlfriend in the face, giving her a black eye and causing her face to swell.

THREE FACE MURDER CHARGES: Jury indicts former officer in 1 of 3 cases

[Excerpts] A 21-member grand jury with two alternates that convened Monday and Tuesday indicted three men on first-degree murder charges in connection with three separate cases. Former Avon Park police officer James H. Parker III, 34, of Sebring was re-indicted on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse, in connection with the death of Kaedyn Alyssa Short, who was 22 months old at the time. Parker was initially indicted on June 24, 2009, said Assistant State Attorney Steve Houchin... The amended indictment only clarified, though it was obvious, that the victim was a child under the age of 18... Parker is accused of shaking Kaedyn Short and inflicting injuries that caused her death in May 2009, according a previous report. Kaedyn was the daughter of Jennifer Short, who was Parker's live-in girlfriend. Parker's arraignment on the amended indictment has been set for July 19... Kaedyn's death also resulted in two felony charges against Jennifer Short. Short was charged with neglect of a child with great bodily harm and failure to report child abuse within the home. A pre-trial conference for Short was scheduled for June 22. A continuance was granted in that case. The next pretrial conference for Short is scheduled for July 20... [Full article here]

PAYNE FOUND NOT GUILTY

[Excerpts] Linda Louise Payne, 41, was acquitted by a jury on Friday after facing charges that she did not report suspected abuse upon 22-month-old Kaedyn Short... Payne, according to Highlands prosecutor Courtney Lenhart, failed to produce an incident report on Kaedyn after an investigation into her death began. Teachers at the day care reported bruises on the infant in 2008. Payne's defense attorney pointed out that Payne was not at the day care the day the incident report was filed and that two teachers at the day care who noticed the bruises never contacted the Department of Children and Family Services. The assistant director, Sara Vasquez, took the report and called the mother, who claimed that the bruises were caused from the child playing in moving boxes at a babysitter's house. Vasquez was also charged with failure to report abuse, but received deferred prosecution. The jurors took just over two hours of deliberation to render the not guilty verdict. [Full article here]

[Excerpts] A Sheffield Lake man was sentenced Friday to five years and seven months in prison after a jury convicted him of stalking an Elyria police detective and her family. David Schmitz, 34, had originally agreed to a plea deal in the case but later withdrew from the agreement and demanded a jury trial. The jury convicted him of retaliation, menacing by stalking, identity fraud and violating a protection order. Lorain County Common Pleas Judge Christopher Rothgery handed down the sentence immediately after the jury returned its verdict... I'm back. It's time to try to catch up... and here are some items I gathered without blogging on them

The last three or four weeks have been a lot of this and that.

I have been keeping up pretty much with emails from victims, but the blog and other projects have lagged. Hopefully things that kept me from doing what I do have subsided now and I can begin trying to catch up some.

Speaking of catching up, I don't post every story.

There are too many. Instead, I keep a list of stories and cases that I have filed but not blogged on - and this would be a good time to drop some of those here. Not having blogged on them makes them no less important. I'm just one person wishing I was a team of people - but at peace with my limitations. I may come back to this post and add some more for these time periods.

JUNE 2011

[PA] Philadelphia Police Officer Howard Lomax was arrested on the belief that he assaulted the girlfriend that he lives with, and then four days later went to his estranged wife's residence and physically assaulted her also. Both women had injuries. After an investigation by the Department's Internal Affairs Bureau and the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office, he was charged with two counts of Simple Assault and two counts of Recklessly Endangering another Person. Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey suspended Lomax with the intent to dismiss him from the force.

[OR] The day after former Portland police Ryan Graichen was released from jail on other charges he created the first of two fictitious Facebook profiles so he could stalk his former girlfriend, despite a no contact order. His bail has been revoked and he is being held without bail. Graichen now faces additional charges of stalking and four counts of violating a civil anti-harrassment order. Graichen currently resides in Washington State.

MAY 2011

[CA] Virgil Millon fatally shot his ex-fiancee, Arabella Bradford, and her close friend, Malvin Conley Jr. Police then killed Millon outside the home he and Bradford owned. All three had worked for the state Department of Corrections. Millon, 46, was a lieutenant in the juvenile justice division; Bradford, 38, was a ; Conley, 43, of Riverside, was a corrections officer at California Institute for Men in Chino. Less than 24 hours before her death, court documents show, Bradford - who wrote that her ex-fiance had been stalking her - had served Millon with a notice that she planned to seek a permanent restraining order that would prohibit him from contacting her... [PA] Rockview state police trooper Timothy Lear, accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend, was acquitted of all charges by a Huntingdon County jury Thursday. Karen Muir, the attorney representing Lear, said the jury deliberated for just 15 minutes before returning with a “not guilty” verdict on felony trespass, misdemeanor simple assault, false imprisonment and other charges.

[AL] Madison County Sheriff's Deputy Dennis Dominick Daversa was arrested by Huntsville Police on charges of burglary, and third-degree domestic violence (harassment). Daversa was booked into the Madison County Jail and put on leave pending an investigation by both Huntsville police and the Madison County sheriff's office.

APRIL 2011

[NC] Recently retired New Bern North Carolina Police Officer Ernest Flowers and commander of the New Bern Young Marines and his wife, Dawn Nelson-Flowers, a non-sworn member of the police department, were both ordered to jail for up to 48 hours on domestic assault charges. Ernest Flowers was charged with assault on a female and Nelson-Flowers was charged with simple assault.

[OH] Euclid Police Officer, Sgt Kevin Blakely, shot and killed himself at the very beginning of a meeting with his supervisors in the department's detective bureau about his lack of cooperation about an internal investigation that had been started on him. April 20, 2011

[ME] Kennebec County Sheriff’s Deputy Mark F. Brown of Vassalboro was cleared of domestic violence assault and violating a protective order. The mother of his child said that Brown confronted her about getting a protection order against him and backhanded her across her face in a parking lot two blocks from the courthouse. She says she waited days to report it because she was embarassed and didn't want to escalate the situation that was already frightening for her. During the trial Brown had two people that testified that he was with them at the time of the reported incident.

[CT] Rocky Hill Police Sergeant Leonard "Lenny" Kulas has taken his own life though engaged to be married. Condolences to his fiance, family and friends. Date of death Thursday, April 28, 2011.

MARCH 2011

[NC] Boone Police Officer Jonathan Lee Cropper was found dead March 16, 2011 at his Avery County home of a gunshot wound that police believe was self-inflicted. He started with the Boone Police Department on Oct. 18, 2010, in the patrol division. PIC

[PA] Ashley Police Chief Dave Cerski has been fired fired. The termination comes about a week after Cerski's ex-girlfriend filed a protection from abuse order against him. He had been successfully sued twice in court since 1997. In December 1997, while a sergeant, Cerski was sued after being accused of being hostile to a county crisis intervention caseworker and was also sued in 2004 for allegedly mistreating a female Ashley fire police official.

[VA] Norfolk police Lt. William Mackenzie killed his wife Patricia and himself inside their Great Bridge condominium, investigators confirmed, and left their friends and neighbors stunned because they saw no warning signs. I collected a lot of information - articles, videos, etc - but another blogger's post made me so upset by what was said about the MacKenzie's that I couldn't post. [ME] Fairfield Deputy Police Chief Steven Trahan - The state Attorney General's Office has decided not to prosecute Trahan on a domestic assault charge because it does not believe a judge or jury would find him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. [Google him here]

[VA] Prince William County police officer Charles Edward Kincheloe has been charged with domestic assault and battery. His police powers have been suspended as part of an internal investigation. He was released on a $1,500 unsecured bond. [Google him here]

[OK] Muskogee Police Officer Perry Galvin, under investigation for allegedly hitting his wife will not be charged. “Based upon the circumstances of the case and the wishes of the complaining witness, no charges are being filed”... [OH] Lorain police officer Zachary Iannantuono is fired for abusing his authority in a dispute with a police dispatcher with whom he had been involved... This isn’t the first time that Iannantuono’s relationship with her has caused problems for the officer... Another officer had to remove a "defiant" Iannantuono from Nieves’ property in May 2009, and he was later placed on leave and removed from road patrol after concerns about [dangerous] comments he’d allegedly made in July 2009 came to light... [UK] Lancaster Farms Young Offenders Institute Prison Officer Robert Holden strangled his wife Nicola and then hanged himself at their family home in Torrisholme, Morecambe. Police said that the pair, of Low Lane, had been experiencing “marital difficulties.” March 4, 2011

[CT] Ex Wilton Police Officer Andrew Barone from Trumbull, has been sentenced to nine months in prison for one count of first-degree reckless endangerment and four counts of fourth-degree computer crime. He was also given nine years of probation for the multiple Class A misdemeanor charges. He was originally charged with one count of sexual assault (of his girlfreind's 16 year old sister) in the second degree, three felony counts of computer crime in the third degree, one count of larceny in the sixth degree and eight breach of peace counts in the second degree. [NJ] Plainfield Police Officer, Lieutenant Ronald S. Lattimore, reported to work but was found dead in his Watchung home later that night. Lattimore was found March 23, 2011, around 8:45 p.m. in his garage, having suffered a fatal and self-inflicted gunshot wound.

FEBRUARY 2011

[ND] Bureau of Indian Affairs Police Officer Duane Gunville accused of cutting his wife with a knife in Devils Lake will have an aggravated assault charge dropped if he completes a domestic violence program. The Prosecutor and the defense attorney agreed to defer prosecution because Gunville's wife recanted, saying now that he did not atack her - but was cut trying to keep him from killing himself with a knife. February 25, 2011

[MD] Prince George Police Sgt. Tora Lynn Coates' formber boyfriend is suing the county for $20 million, claiming that her supervisors should have prevented the attack. Attorneys for 48-year-old Billy Peoples, of White Plains, said Prince George's County police brass should have known that his fiancee, Sgt. Tora Lynn Coates, was suicidal, a danger to the public and unfit to be a police officer. Three years ago, Coates killed herself and critically wounded Peoples by gunfire in what detectives determined was an attempted murder and suicide... According to a Nov. 18, 2008 post on the Web site Behind the Blue Wall, a man who identified himself as Coates' fiance said the shooting left him partially paralyzed. "I do not blame her, I miss her everyday. But I blame her [department]. I had warned the [department] that she might have problems that they need [to] address," the writer said. "She was so well liked by her superiors that they felt that [it] needed to be pushed under the carpet so not to tarnish and end her career"... [Full article here]

[PA] Pittsburgh police Detective David Honick - Prosecutors withdrew charges Tuesday against Pittsburgh police Detective David Honick and his wife accused of assault. Honick and his wife, Jennifer, both 37, refused to testify against each other at a preliminary hearing in Pittsburgh Municipal Court, and there was no clear aggressor in the dispute. [TX] El Paso Police Officer Zake Rivera was arrested on sexual assault after making a domestic violence victim give him oral sex against her will in his patrol car outside the apartment building where her husband and her had fought. DNA evidence was found on her person. Records from 2006 that show the Civil Service Commission voted to disqualify Rivera from taking the exam to become a police officer. February 25, 2011

[MA] Medford Police Sergeant James Lee's Civil Service hearing about hitting a woman who he had previous dated was closed to the public. The woman was granted an extended protection order. Sgt. Lee was denied. "The hearing is the first step of a process that will determine if Lee committed any wrong-doing or misconduct, and if so, what disciplinary measures are warranted." Feb 22, 2011

[FL] Davie Police Officer Kevin Kilpatrick - on paid leaved 7 years - has been investigated on accusations involving a domestic abuse call cover-up, as well as a DUI charge. The department fired him twice, and twice he won his job back... He collected $80,275 annually until he was again fired in January 2008, when a psychologist ruled him "permanently unfit for duty." Kilpatrick sued and the city reinstated him in August 2009. Kilpatrick said psychologists have since ruled him fit for duty, but the department has kept him on paid leave... JANUARY 2011

[WA] Kennewick Firefighter Ryan Gladstoneone was charged with first-degree child molestation "of a child he knows" on January 18th, 2011, while the child was visiting his home. He and his wife were in the midst of a divorce. He was put on leave and served a protection order from his wife. While in jail he was found hanging, and later died at the hospital. DOD Jan. 27, 2011

[ID] Ex Ada County Jail Deputy Michael James Lee is accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting his wife and fatally stabbing his mother Lynn Blake. He is facing multiple felony charges — including first degree murder, second degree kidnapping, rape, aggravated assault, battery, and use of a deadly weapon during a crime. He worked as a deputy until 2010. These violent crimes happend January 4, 2011

[AZ] Former Sgt. Tim Smith firing upheld. by Peoria personnel board. Smith was terminated February 2010 after an investigation found that the 13-year Peoria police officer had threatened to kill his former wife and used a department cellphone to send harassing text messages to her. Investigators also found that Smith had attached a Peoria police tracking device to his wife's car and documented a 2008 incident in which Smith had thrown a drink in another man's face at a Peoria bar after learning the man had purchased a drink for his wife. [IN] Marion County Deputy Prosecutor Kirmille Welbon was was fired after she was charged in connection with a domestic altercation - charged with residential entry, battery with injury and criminal trespass.

[VA] Fired Brunswick Correctional Center Corrections Officer Tiffany Harrison of Brodnax arrested and jailed without bond for stabbing her husband, ex-convict William Harrison to death over an argument about beans she says.

[NM] Alamogordo Police Officer Andy Dominguez's Sudden Death Shocks Community: He died suddenly in his home Jan. 4 2011 at the age of 39. A cause of death hasn't been released.

[PA] PITTSBURGH FIREFIGHTER Thomas Baltos was charged with domestic violence, aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest and making terroristic threats... Baltos is accused of assaulting his wife. When police arrived, they found a woman in need of medical attention. She was taken to Allegheny General Hospital. Police officers responding to the call said Baltos had a large sword and was making threats to the officers. When police attempted to take him into custody, he began to fight several officers.

[TX] Lubbock police officer Jason Hignight resigned right before being arrested and charged with two counts of sexual assault of a child and one count of indecency with a child. Hignight's underage family members, ages 16 and 12, were interviewed by police about the allegations after the mother of the girls brought them to the police department. According to an arrest warrant, Hignight's wife walked in him exposing himself with one of the victims. The 16-year-old victim told police that the sexual assaults have been going on for three years.
