FORMER DEPUTY CHARGED WITH MURDER-FOR-HIRE PLOT: Authorities say a Georgia woman tried to hire a hit man to kill her ex-husband from Virginia Beach.

[Excerpts] Enid Collins is charged with trying to set up a murder for hire. The target, her ex-husband who lives in Virginia Beach. Collins is a former Virginia Beach Sheriff's Deputy, and now lives in Georgia. Federal authorities say she wanted to have her ex-husband killed at this Cracker Barrel, north of Charlotte... The two were scheduled to meet there last week so that the couple's kids could go visit their mother. But luckily it never happened. Collins was arrested in Georgia and is currently being held in North Carolina... Court documents say she was willing to pay $1,500 dollars and even pay for the gun to do the deed. In late May, court documents show the cooperating witness was with investigators when Collins called to hash out the details of the hit. She's quoted as saying "I don't care if it's at Cracker Barrel, wherever. Just after I leave." The witness then asked about whether plans to kill her ex-husband's current wife were still on. Court documents show Collins replied "Yeah, just wait. You gotta do things in stages. Bam, bam. Can't do it that way, look too suspicious." [Full article here]

[Excerpts] A Georgia woman accused of trying to hire someone to kill her ex-husband was denied bond Friday morning. Prosecutors called Enid Collins, from Lawrenceville, Ga., a flight risk and a danger to the community during the Friday morning hearing, and asked the judge to keep her in custody. The defense asked that she be released to face charges in her native Virginia Beach, arguing that she is a former sheriff’s deputy with no violent past... In court documents, federal agents said she'd been planning the hit for several months, asking a friend she's known for 20 years to find someone to kill her ex-husband for $1,500. But agents said that friend called police in Virginia Beach, who in turn contacted federal agents. Investigators recorded phone conversations between Collins and her friend...
