...[Ex-Placer County Sheriff's deputy Paul] Kovacich, now 61, is being held in medium security at Ironwood State Prison at Blythe... Kovacich was sentenced to 27 years to life in prison in April 2009 for the 1982 murder of his wife Janet... Kovacich was a Placer County sheriff's sergeant at the time of the disappearance. The conviction came after four months of trial, 77 witnesses and 750 exhibits. Kovacich never took the stand in the case, which relied largely on circumstantial evidence. The verdict ended the mystery of what happened to Janet Kovacich, 27 and the mother of two young children, when she disappeared... Kovacich will not be eligible for parole until 2034...
