"My husband stabbed me," a Franklin County deputy told a 911 dispatcher early yesterday from the bedroom of her South Side home. Then she gasped and cried out that her husband had just shot himself... Neighbors told ABC6/FOX28 News' Mike McCarthy that they recalled hearing shouting coming from the Worthingtons' home early Wednesday. They said they never expected to hear a scream - and, then a gunshot. Police say the incident appeared to spring from a case of domestic violence...

[Excerpts] A former Sheriff's deputy allegedly stabbed his wife -- a current Franklin County Sheriff's deputy -- in her neck Wednesday morning, ABC6/FOX28 News has learned. Police say Matthew Worthington then shot himself in his chest in the backyard of the couple's home on Breeze Hill Drive in Grove City. Emergency crews responded to a call to the home just after 1 a.m. Wednesday. Medics rushed the Worthingtons to the hospital. Matthew did not survive his injuries, while Laura was placed in intensive care. She's expected to live. Police say the incident appeared to spring from a case of domestic violence. Neighbors told ABC6/FOX28 News' Mike McCarthy that they recalled hearing shouting coming from the Worthingtons' home early Wednesday. [Excerpts] ...Another Franklin County deputy who lives up the street from the family said Matthew Worthington called him shortly before the shooting. He ran to the house to try to help out and spoke to 911 operators who were on the line with Laura Worthington, Strickler reported. Police said that the couple's two daughters, ages 3 and 6, were inside the home during the ordeal and were not harmed. Matthew Worthington, who worked as a deputy with the Franklin County Sheriff's office, resigned in 2008... He resigned after a sheriff's investigation revealed that he had humiliated newly hired deputies by forcing them to sing and act out children's nursery rhymes and play leapfrog at the Franklin County Jail. At about the same time, a female deputy accused Worthington of sexual harassment... Sheriff investigators said Worthington was "insulting, degrading, demeaning and hostile" to female deputies in the jail. [Excerpts] "My husband stabbed me," a Franklin County deputy told a 911 dispatcher early yesterday from the bedroom of her South Side home. Then she gasped and cried out that her husband had just shot himself. Laura Worthington's husband, former Deputy Matthew Worthington, stabbed her in the neck shortly before 1 a.m. and then shot himself in the backyard of their home at 2259 Breeze Hill Dr., according to the 911 call... Columbus police received a hang-up call from the house before 1 a.m., and when a dispatcher called back, Mr. Worthington answered the phone. At first, he denied that anyone had called, but then he frantically told the dispatcher that he had stabbed his wife and she was going to die if paramedics didn't come quickly. Coroner Jan Gorniak said Mr. Worthington had been shot in the chest. He had resigned from the sheriff's office in 2008 after being suspended for insubordination, sexually harassing female subordinates and neglecting his duties. Investigators wrote that "he admitted he was unable to control his outbursts of anger, perceived by his subordinates as intimidating"...
