[Excerpts] A Bronx mother of four is missing and feared dead - and investigators are eying her husband, a former NYPD cop with a history of domestic violence... Tina Adovasio, 40, was last seen leaving the tidy Throgs Neck home she shared with her husband, former housing cop Edwin Coello, about 9 p.m. Friday... Coello, 40, told police he had an argument with the nurse and mother to his 5-year-old daughter before she stormed out of their Edison Ave. apartment, sources said. The couple is known for their rocky history; records show Adovasio filed for divorce last month. Coello has been busted at least three times for domestic incidents against Adovasio. "He had beat her before," Adovasio's mother, Adrienne Susco, told The News. "She needed stitches and had two black eyes," she said of an incident that happened a couple of years ago. Coello - who was forced to quit in 2000 after reports of domestic abuse against his first wife - was questioned about Adovasio's disappearance. Detectives asked if they could search his car, but Coello clammed up and refused, sources said. He was later released because of lack of evidence... "He lied and told the cops she had run off before and left the kids," Susco said. "Never, ever would she leave her children." Susco said her daughter took the four children to Florida to get away for a couple of weeks, but that was all. "Oh, my God, I can't even say how devastating this is. She was so beautiful," said Susco... [Full article here]

[Excerpts] A Bronx mother of four is missing and feared dead - and investigators are eying her husband, a former NYPD cop with a history of domestic violence, sources said. Tina Adovasio, 40, was last seen leaving the tidy Throgs Neck home she shared with her husband, former housing cop Edwin Coello, about 9 p.m. Friday, sources said. Police sources told the Daily News a blurry image of a man believed to be Coello was caught on tape dragging a duffel bag "big enough to hold a body" from the home on the same night. Investigators tracked Adovasio's cell phone and got hits in High Bridge and Morris Heights on Monday, leading them to believe that her body may have been dumped in one location and her belongings in another... Cops are expected to launch an even wider search Wednesday for Adovasio's body... Late Tuesday, police found Coello's Nissan Maxima in the Bronx and got a search warrant to look for evidence. His lawyer, Renee Hill, said Coello has fully cooperated. "He's the one who filed the report," Hill said. "He doesn't know where she is"... [Full article here]

[Excerpts] ...Police sources say the 40-year-old maternity nurse's estranged husband Eddy Coello is a "person of interest" in her disappearance, and Bronx court records show he once went berserk in their home while she cradled their crying 1-year-old daughter Mia, smashing trophies and breaking her phone against a wall. Collo, arrested twice on domestic violence charges involving the vivacious mother of four, was "yelling and cursing" when he grabbed her cordless phone and shoved her aside the morning of Feb. 26, 2006... "Wait till you see what I am going to do to your f---ing car. I am going to break all the windows," he screamed, the complaint says... "I heard some yelling around 8 o'clock or so Friday night, but I didn't know where it was coming from," said downstairs neighbor and landlord... "He beat her up a couple of times... The last time, she was black and blue. She used to run to my apartment." Cops were poring over recent building surveillance video that shows Coello exiting with a bag or rug sources said... Coello was forced to retire from the department in 2000 over a domestic incident with a previous wife. The arrests include an assault charge in 2007. In 2006 -- the year they were married - he was arrested for criminal mischief. He also was charged with harassment in 2005, but it was unclear if she was the victim. Neighbors said Coello still lived there off and on, but that they were headed for divorce because of the fights. The pair have a 5-year-old daughter together... Adovasio has three other children... [Tina's former husband and father of her other 3 children] Joe Adovasio called Coello -- who now works as a physician's assistant in White Plains -- "an animal." "He beat her up about five years ago," Adovasio told The Post. "I guess she was afraid of him. I actually told him, 'You even touch my kids, I'll kill you.' " The ex and several other sources said Tina received an order of protection against Coello after the beating. "She called me, and I rushed over... She didn't want the kids to see how she looked, with a fractured jaw, three stitches on her eyebrow and black eyes"... [Full article here]

[Excerpts] The body of a missing Bronx mother of four - the estranged wife of an abusive ex-cop - was found in a patch of woods in Westchester County on Wednesday night by teens riding four-wheelers... The medical examiner hadn't yet determined the exact cause of death, but sources said investigators believe the 40-year-old was choked to death... Edwin Coello, 40, whose marriage to Adovasio was marked by bouts of domestic violence, was expected to turn himself in to authorities Thursday morning... During questioning after her disappearance, Coello seemed to be the "helpful husband" until about 12 hours in when detectives asked to look at his car. He refused and clammed up, sources said. He did tell detectives Adovasio scratched him before storming out of their home Friday night, sources said. "It was as if he knew what was going to happen so he told us that they had fought earlier and she had scratched him, in case we found his skin under her fingernails," one source close to the probe said. The case is now being investigated by Westchester County, Yorktown Heights and NYPD cops... Joe Adovasio, who helped investigators identify the body of his ex-wife, feared the worst and has tried to console their two sons and daughter since she disappeared. "At least she was found," he said. "There's at least some closure there.... [Coello] should rot in hell," he said. "[Tina Adovasio] was a beautiful woman and a good mother. Our hearts go out to her side of the family." Coello, a former housing cop, was pushed out of the force in 2000 amid reports he abused his first wife. She was holed up with her son Wednesday in her Bronx home, too terrified to talk... [Full article here]

MISSING MOM DEAD: WIFE OF ABUSIVE EX-COP FOUND OFF HIGHWAY
New York Post
By Larry Celona, Kirstan Conley And Bob Fredericks
March 17, 2011
[Excerpts] The bruised body of a Bronx mom of four who was the estranged wife of an abusive ex-NYPD cop was found yesterday in a wooded area off a Westchester highway... [Tina's former husband Joseph Adovasio:] "The police called me earlier and asked if she had any identifying marks... I told them she had a tattoo on her ankle, a starburst. It's not colored in, it's blue. They've must've identified her using that." He said the thought of telling their three children was overwhelming. "But we'll handle this as a family. We're a very tight-knit family." he said. The grim discovery came as it was learned that Adovasio told her divorce lawyer her husband, Eddy Coello, would be to blame if she were ever harmed. "If anything happens to me, look at him," Tina Adovasio said last month as she took out an order of protection against Coello... Coello, who has a 5-year-old daughter with Adovasio, is a "person of interest" in the pretty maternity nurse's death, the sources said. He was the last to see her alive and called 911 to report her missing, but has since hired a lawyer and stopped cooperating... "One of the cops told me they're gonna squeeze him till he pops," her ex said. Cops impounded Coello's car yesterday... [Full article here]

The abusive ex-cop husband of a Bronx woman who was found dead after being missing for days turned himself into police at 9:50 a.m. Thursday. Thirty minutes later, a haggard-looking Edwin Coello - accompanied by a pair of lawyers - walked out of the 45th Precinct stationhouse in the Bronx without being arrested. 2. This is why more needs to be done for domestic violence victims... he couldn't control her so he killed her.. even if it happened to be accidental in the midst of a violent heated moment no one has the right to take the life of another person -this guy should rot in jail for the rest of his life for taking the life of this mother and beautiful girl. I was married to an abuser and getting out alive is the most dangerous time for a woman... this is probably why many people just stay and put up with the abuse because the violence and controlling behavior just escalates when a woman finally throws up her hands and says I am done and I am outta here and people who haven't lived it have no clue whatsoever why women stay and put up with it - it is because they are scared to death - duh!

    1. she had a supportive family who told her she could come to them. This guy put her in the hospital a few years before with black eyes and broken bones, yet she still stayed with him. WHY?. What was her ex husband like? After she was hospitalized with assault wounds she went back to this guy when she obviously has many other options.

  6. Bronx judge sentences ex-cop to life for wife's murder
Crying killer 'I snapped,' ex-cop weeps
Montero, Douglas; Cynthia, R; Fagen. New York Post
    15 Nov 2012: 24.

An ex-cop convicted of murdering his wife blubbered like a baby yesterday before a judge sent him away for up to life behind bars.

Weeping wife-killer Eddy Coello got hit with the maximum punishment - 25 years to life - by an unsympathetic Supreme Court Justice Ralph Fabrizio.

"What you did was horrific. You have a very dark side," the Bronx judge lambasted the cold-blooded killer.

Before that, a whimpering Coello, 41, tried to explain away his horrific act.

"Somehow, we let our emotions get the best of us. I lost control. I snapped," said Coello, who in a fit of rage strangled his wife, mother-of-four Tina Adovasio, in March.

Handcuffed and wearing a black suit, the once- cocky Coello turned to his victim's stoic family.

"I'm sorry for putting you through this. I'm sorry for all the pain and anguish. There are simply no words to explain the magnitude of sadness I feel. I surrender to the consequences of my actions."

But his feeble pleas fell on deaf ears.

Stephanie Susco stared down her sister-in-law's killer.

"Abusive, violent, monster, evil, coward, murderer," she said.
