[VA] "Resigned" Officer Martin in trouble again, accused of repeatedly punching his child's mother "about the face" - ...the woman said she got into an argument with Martin and that during the fight, he punched her "about the face several times"... The woman's face was "severely swollen" and she had two black eyes, said Richmond prosecutor Andy Johnson. "We're looking into the exact extent of her injuries," he added....

[Excerpts] A former Richmond police officer was found guilty yesterday of assaulting the mother of one of his children and sentenced to 12 months in jail, all suspended. After a two-hour trial in Richmond Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, Judge Richard B. Campbell convicted Carlos Jerome Martin, 36, of misdemeanor domestic assault. Martin's attorney indicated that he plans to appeal... At one point during the dispute, Martin pinned her to the ground and hit her several times in the face. "She had two black eyes and multiple bruises over most of her body," said Richmond prosecutor Andy Johnson... The first officer to arrive at the scene testified that he found Atkins on the floor with blood coming from her nose and a pool of blood around her... Martin originally was charged with malicious wounding. Johnson reduced the charge to domestic assault after it was determined Atkins did not suffer any broken bones... Martin resigned his position with Richmond police as part of a plea agreement in an earlier case. He was charged in September 2008 with giving false reports to law-enforcement officials... [Link]

Suspended sentence? What kind of message does that send? Glad this bully is off the force...

Wow! He can give her 2 black eyes and bruise most of her body ? but says he pinned her down because he did not know what she might do? Guess he thought he was out on the street taking down a suspect.. Also lied twice before calling in false reports...

If Martin had done the same thing to a dog instead of a person, he would be looking at a felony conviction and certain jail time. We would have 10 pages of comments full of outrage and contempt for Martin...

Martin's story is a bald faced lie and Judge Campbell knows it. Martin can beat a woman, lie to the judge about it and still serve no jail time. Judge Campbell should be removed from the bench...

No jail time? I'm shocked, SHOCKED!!!...

What the judge really did was gave him the freedom to go back and do it again. Next time she might disappear- "must have left with a boyfriend"...
