[FL] Assistant Police Chief Bobby Jones resigns after charged with assaulting then-girlfriend

Cocoa Assistant Police Chief Bobby Jones resigned on March 9th, 2011 and will probably avoid a completed investigation report by doing so. Now if he can get the charges dropped, on paper it will be as if it never happened and he will be fully employable again without accountability for any committed crime(s).

Poof!

On the swing side there is concern for him and everyone directly involved with him because this is quite a fall. Hopefully he will utilize services if it gets too hard, and won't hurt anyone - or himself. Prayers lifted. (There are other jobs.)

Are local domestic violence services supporting the victim, or is it too political for them? Hoping she has what she needs. Double prayers lifted.

The resignation comes ahead of criminal charges Jones faces stemming from an altercation with his ex-girlfriend that happened in December. A court date on the charges has not been set. After the State Attorney’s Office filed the charge last Thursday, Jones, who had been on paid leave, was put on unpaid leave and his employment status came under review, said Cocoa police spokeswoman Barbara Matthews. "It's just very frustrating, because he beat me up and he gets to go home, sleep in his own bed, and now he's on paid vacation, and where's the justice in that," the woman told WFTV... the two were dating at the time, but now she says she's angry that Melbourne police wouldn't make an arrest even though she had visible injuries... "The only reason he can walk free is because of his position" she said... Jones is currently on paid leave, drawing a $72,000 a year paycheck. His accuser says he should be behind bars. "I don't trust the system at all. I mean, justice wasn't served that night, and this process is so painstaking. I can't understand why it's taking this long," she said... [Full article here]

[Excerpts] Bobby Jones, Cocoa police's deputy chief, faces a misdemeanor charge of battery stemming from a December altercation with his former girlfriend. I actually know Bobby, and I do feel bad for him because it seems like he has lost everything but then again as I said I know Bobby and knowing Bobby, he really did bring this on himself. It's a shame, but he should be held accountable for his mistakes as he would surely hold others accountable for theirs.
