[FL] Deputy Greer's wife "did sustain a visible injury"

Off-duty deputy charged with domestic battery
WTSP - Tampa Bay's 10 News
Jul 23 2007
Largo, Florida - An off-duty deputy has been arrested for allegedly harming his wife during an argument in their home, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Offiice announced Monday night. Charged with one count of domestic battery is Deputy Gerard R. Greer, 39. He has been with the sheriff's office since February of 1990 and has most recently been assigned to the Patrol Operations Bureau. The sheriff's office said deputies were sent to his residence Monday afternoon and determined an argument he had with his wife the night before became physical, and that he had committed a battery. "No weapons were involved in the dispute however the victim did sustain a visible injury for which she later sought treatment at a local walk-in medical clinic," the sheriff's office said. Greer was taken to the Pinellas County jail and held without bond pending a court hearing expected Tuesday.

  1. Here is your follow-up...

Deputy Greer had a recommended five day suspension but Sheriff Coats of the Pinellas County SO denied it and terminated him based on his having received too many prior points, as well as the battery. Greer was terminated in March of 2008 after a long battle to see justice served. His current whereabouts are unknown, but he still lists his current residence and owns a home in the St. Petersburg area. Wife still fighting for divorce. Wife lost her job of over four years due to injuries - which are permanent in nature.
I am a close friend of the victim.

  2. Thank you so much!
I'll add it to his file. I'll have to watch for him now in case he picks up another law enforcement job.

He used to work with DARE for Pinellas County Schools. Maybe he should have taught kids not to hit their wives when they grew up... oops too late.

  6. Curious what your friend's injuries were that caused her to lose her job of 4 years. Must of been a horrific attack. We had a case similar to this in Maryland town near me. So many police officers abusing wives/girlfriends.

    1. I am also curious, he is on a dating website in Pittsburgh PA, and currently lives in pgh, PA.area. Is this man really dangerous, or is HE the victim of a vindictive ex-wife? Can you please elaborate on his wife's injuries. as asked by the Dec 6th post? He is claiming he was cleared of all charges and his record is expunged

    2. How many injuries will it take to make you think dating him is not a good idea? Which injuries are ok? Being cleared is not the same as being found innocent.

    3. These replies to inquiries are evasive and defensive in nature. It would be helpful if replies are informative in nature, giving facts and information about the gentleman.

    4. My question regarding Mr. Greer was not meant to be in defense of him, It was simply a request for more information so that if these charges are real and can be backed up with real information, such as the permanently disabled condition of ex-wife reported and severety of injuries requiring her inability to work ever again, and re-occuring episodes of violence , I can report him to the board of the dating website and have him removed. Removal from a web-site is easier if the individual can be proven to be a violent predator. Thank you for any information anyone can give to assist.

Did you read and understand the part that states, "his wife did sustain a VISIBLE injury"? How does that translate to HIM being "the victim of a vindictive ex-wife"? She wasn't his ex at the time of the assault (they were married), so that makes absolutely no sense.

What do you mean by "if these charges are real and can be backed up..."? Are you attempting to gain medical and surgical records about his ex wife as "proof" for yourself? The fact that he was arrested; she sustained a "visible injury" and he was, in fact, charged, found guilty and fired after 18 years on the force (after a substantial investigation by the internal police dept) should say something right there. If that's not enough "proof" for you, then nothing anyone says to you will change it. And you have no right to personal information of the victim. I just hope you're not next. Good grief.

    6. FROM THE ABOVE STORY Tampa Bay 10 News:

"The sheriff's office said deputies were sent to his residence Monday afternoon and determined an argument he had with his wife the night before became physical, and that he had committed a battery."

Re-read that last line again if you're still needing "proof" or a "real story"...
"...DEPUTIES... DETERMINED... THAT HE HAD COMMITTED A BATTERY..."

This means that his own friends and co-workers came to the home, interviewed him, observed and collected EVIDENCE of the abuse and determined that a battery did, in fact, take place. "He had committed a battery"... What is there not to understand about this? Why is the victim's integrity being questioned? Wow... just wow...

Seems to me that you are seeking an excuse for him due to a personal interest or something. If you want to roll the dice, then that is your prerogative. It's your life. But if something happens, you can't say you weren't warned.

as an outsider reading this I still find it odd that no injuries were disclosed by anyone. i know first hand that even if he slapped her and left a mark it would be considered battery...even a slap is wrong, but the inability to work?? and getting treatment at a local walk in facility? for permanent injury in nature??? hmmmmmm

Intereseting how someone who is outsider who has no knowledge about the events or people feels compelled to comment and drop insinuations. If you don't know, why say anything at all.

"as an outsider" you and any other "outsiders" have no right to personal information about any prior, current and/or ongoing treatment concerning the victim.
Rather than drop insinuations about things you supposedly have no first hand knowledge of, how about bringing forth some information that supports Mr. Greer's claims of expungement and innocence? We'll wait...

Some of these comments are sad.

Did anyone say she was "permanently disabled" or would NEVER be able to do ANY kind of work EVER again?
Football players get permanently injured all the time but it doesn't mean they can never work anywhere else again. Permanent injuries and permanently disabled do not necessarily mean the same things. Maybe the injuries were to joints like hips, shoulders, wrists, knees and/or neck? Definitely would cause "a visible injury" and make working in certain professions harder. Just a thought.

I read the part about the walk in clinic to mean it was urgent enough that it couldn't wait for the family dr. but she apparently wasn't bleeding out or whatever to need the ER. IDK, Perhaps she tried to go to work the day after the fight and was too injured to perform her duties??? We could ASS-U-ME forever but we don't know.

I find it a little hard to believe his own buddies would fire him over a "slap". Just MHO.

If I was a betting man, I'd bet that some of these comments were made by Mr. Greer himself, in an effort to deflect blame and victim smear. Hmmmmm...

Where's this "victim of a vindictive ex wife" lurking lately anyway?

  13. I have deleted the two comments by (aka) "DJ Higgin" because the first comment was in support of Greer and their second comment was to admit that they lied in their first comment, and that actually Greer is abusive. Plus in the second comment makes more assertions which may or may not be true. Too much conflict to let it stand.
