[Excerpts] The murder trial of a Millville police sergeant charged with killing his wife will take place in Cumberland County, a judge ruled Friday. In a hearing before Superior Court Judge Walter Marshall, attorneys for Sgt. Robert Vanaman, 39, asked that his upcoming trial take place in nearby Gloucester County. The reason for the change of venue, they argued, was that the jury pool in Cumberland County was irrevocably tainted by the media coverage of the May 11, 2006, death of Barbara Vanaman and her husband's subsequent court proceedings. Attorney Joseph O'Neill told Marshall that he believed the news coverage - in print, Internet and broadcast media - has been partial to the slain woman. He pointed to news stories that he said essentially lionized Barbara Vanaman as a blameless victim and misrepresented her as more petite and demure than she actually was. O'Neill also took issue with photographs showing Vanaman, who they said acted in self-defense when he shot his wife twice in the chest with his service revolver, in an orange jail jumpsuit...
