[GA] Tanika Valentine's in jail for shooting, wounding her cop dad. Her mother says it was an accident.


Claxton police officer [William Valentine] has been transported to Memorial University Medical Center after being shot in his home... His daughter, Tanika Valentine, 20, was arrested for aggravated assault... Karin Valentine insists her daughter didn't hurt anyone. "She never even had the gun in her hand. My husband went and got the gun. We were afraid she was going to do something crazy to herself"...

[Excerpts] A daughter in Claxton has been charged with assault after investigators say she shot her police officer father with his service gun... [Police Chief Edward] Oglesbee said the daughter took her father's service handgun during an argument at their home Sunday. The chief said that when the officer tried to grab the gun from his daughter, she shot him. The father is being treated at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah for wounds... [Excerpts] Police in Claxton say they're charging the 20-year-old daughter of a police officer with aggravated assault. Police Chief Edward Oglesbee says it's in connection with a shooting in the home of police officer Bill Valentine on Sunday. Oglesbee says Officer Valentine was shot in the hand and stomach area... [The chief] says some kind of domestic problem led to the shooting, and that apparently the daughter grabbed her father's gun. [Excerpts] A Claxton police officer [William Valentine] has been transported to Memorial University Medical Center after being shot in his home... His daughter, Tanika Valentine, 20, was arrested for aggravated assault... Police say they are still investigating whether she shot her father. Karin Valentine, the officer's wife and the Tanika's mother, says it was a terrible accident. Valentine told WTOC she was worried her daughter was going to get the gun and hurt herself. "I told my husband that she was going in the room so he ran in there and grabbed his gun belt and when he grabbed his gun belt he turned and bumped into the dresser and that's when the gun went off," Karin Valentine said. Valentine says her daughter has been stressed lately. "She was really upset and the next thing I know she said you all don't want me here, let me see what I can do about that," Valentine said. Claxton Police Chief Edward Oglesbee said Tanika Valentine has a history of domestic problems... Karin Valentine insists her daughter didn't hurt anyone. "She never even had the gun in her hand.
