A West Richland police officer was out of jail Monday after being arrested for domestic violence. 38 year old Officer Brian Galusha is accused of grabbing his 24 year old wife by the hair and putting her in a headlock early Monday morning at Cavanaugh's Landing in Kennewick. Police say when a bouncer tried to break up the encounter, Galusha spit blood on him. West Richland police say he'll be placed on paid leave as they investigate the incident. "We just want to make sure that they're not out on the street that they're focused on what they need to take, and so that we can get this investigation complete without having to worry about anything," said Chief Layne Erdman. Galusha is a two-year veteran of West Richland police. He's being held on a count of domestic violence and fourth-degree assault for hitting the bouncer.

A local police officer is under fire for allegedly beating up his wife. Prosecutors charged West Richland police officer Brian Galusha with two counts of misdemeanor assault after he was caught in a bar brawl... Kennewick police launched the criminal investigation while West Richland P.D. conducted an internal investigation... Investigators claim a bouncer, Joseph Dobie, tried to break up the fight when someone reached over him and punched Galusha in the face. It left him with a bloody nose and mouth... And when Dobie tried to help Galusha with the bleeding, reports state, Galusha turned right around and punched Dobie in the face... Action News talked to Galusha's former neighbors on Mockingbird Ct in West Richland, who claimed he often got fired up with his own family behind closed doors. "He was a really nice guy as a neighbor, I liked him a lot," said Judy Lambert, Galusha's former next-door-neighbor. "But I used to do gardening outside and I would hear him yelling at his kids and his family a lot. And he could be mean to his dog." Lambert then also added," I was a little scared of him... He was a police officer so I trusted him, but I was a bit worried about the verbal abuse of the children and that kind of thing," she said."I felt sorry for the kids and sorry for the dog"... City records show Galusha was sworn into to the department in the fall of 2005. City records also show that his wife is a reserve officer for the Grandview police department. Under a court order, Galusha cannot have any contact with his wife. The West Richland police department has a zero tolerance policy against domestic violence. Plus, if a court finds Galusha guilty of the crimes, he is no longer allowed to own a gun, a requirement on the force. The West Richland police chief told Action News that this is the first time an officer has been arrested for domestic violence in his department. But it's not the first time a local cop has come under fire. Former Kennewick cop Frank McLain was fired from the force earlier this year after an alleged assault with his wife.
His trial date is set April 21.

  1. I am good friends with officer Galusha and his wife and the media took this way out of context. He did not assault his wife nor punch the bouncer. They were surrounded by a bunch of drunk people and a select few told the police what they wanted to see. It's sad the media has to visit his old neighbor, cut and paste together seconds of the entire interview and make it sound like he's a monster. Galusha was not even with his current wife at the time.

  2. I hope the cocksucker rots. He cheated on his wife at the time with my wife at the time (a dispatcher) and fucked up my life. He got on the phone after they got caught and called me a cripple and said he knew where I lived.

  3. I am Brian's now former wife. For anyone following this story yet, I left him after the incident occurred and I have gone on to rebuild my life and I am happier than ever before. I consider myself lucky that the incident of physical abuse took place in a public establishment because it forced me to confront the abuse and to see the kind of relationship I was in, many victims don't have that luxury and they suffer in silence with abuse carried out in the privacy of homes with no witnesses. I am lucky for the people that tried to help me that night, and I am thankful for any thoughts and prayers that went out on my behalf. Domestic Violence can affect anyone, I was active in the law enforcement community as a reserve police officer, with the county TRT, and I was a recent Red Cross award recipient. DV can affect anyone no matter how strong or independent they seem to be. I thank God every day for finally allowing me to see the nature of the relationship I was in and giving me the means to get the hell out. Thanks again to everyone who helped me or prayed for me, and know that I am happy and healthy. I am currently becoming a volunteer with DV victims and hope to help DV victims overcome their abuse and move on with happy, productive lives.

  4. These three comments lined up together are deep.

To the last two, thank you.

Katrina, if you'd like me to have your email address for when I talk to officers and dispatchers who have gone through what you have - I'd be honored. I only mention it because you mentioned helping other dv victims - and victims who themselves are in law enforcement relate best to those who have been in their position.

I'm so glad that you are rebuilding your life, or claiming it back. Many just can't.
