[Excerpts] ...Opening arguments are being held today. Dustin Reininger, 36, of Rockport, Texas was charged in an Aug. 20, 2009 indictment with unlawful possession of assault firearms, second degree; unlawful possession of handguns, second degree; unlawful possession of rifles, third degree; unlawful possession of shotguns, third degree; possession prohibited weapons or devices, fourth degree; possession of large capacity ammunition magazines, fourth degree; hindering apprehension, third degree and obstructing the administration of law, fourth degree... After the vehicle was towed to headquarters, police obtained a warrant and searched the truck. They said they found 23 long guns, of which five are classified as “assault” firearms; three handguns; and high-capacity magazines and hollow-point bullets, which are prohibited in New Jersey. He also allegedly lied to police and otherwise tried to prevent his own prosecution. [LINK]

August 12, 2010
[Excerpts] A jury in Hunterdon County is deliberating the fate of a Texas man who was accused of having nearly two dozen weapons... Dustin Reininger, 37, of Rockport, is charged with multiple offenses, including second-degree possession of assault firearms and handguns, and third-degree hindering his own prosecution. A conviction on a second-degree offense could mean up to 10 years in state prison. Deliberations started this morning, and while the jurors have seen the guns displayed en masse in the Flemington courtroom, they have not gotten to see the defendant. Reininger failed to show for the two-day trial that started Tuesday before Superior Court Judge Stephen Rubin. He had been told that if he didn’t appear in court, the trial would proceed without him... The guns were stacked like cords of wood... [LINK]

...This man attempted to kidnap his daughter from a supervised visit but the operation went awry. This is his second arrest in multiple states, including criminal threatening with a firearm to his wife, phone harrassment charges and a permanent order of protection from the state of Massachusetts, including a court finding of a tortious act against his wife AND children. The public records showed he lied repeatedly to police. He also was given jail time in 2006 due to leaving the state with his son without permission from his first wife...

...Do a google search on this guy and you will see he is a violent offender who tried to kidnap his daughter from a home where she was placed for protective custody. His truck was full of these weapons at the time. He threatened his wife with a loaded gun to her head. He crossed state lines without knowledge of transporting guns through those states. He was so stupid that he parked and fell asleep in the parking lot of a bank! with all these loaded guns. Cops did a good job on this one...

...Why such character assassination in a forum where the innocent cannot respond? I believe none of that except you are trying to stir up emotions against an individual. I could say the same about you or anyone else. People with attitudes like your's make NJ a hostile satte to raise a family...

...He kidnaped his son from a previous marriage and only returned the child in order to avoid jail time, and then re-kidnaped that same child over a year and a half ago following his arrest in N.J. The mother of that child is still searching for her son. And now this man has not only skipped out on trial but his business and employees...

...shane left rockport texas today with several boatyard operator's trying to stop him as he owed several thousand dollars for work to the 30 ft Vega motorsailer he and his 11 year old son left on. Rockport police failed to accept theft of service charges against him. he also goes by sean reilly. His phone no.s are 361 443 1591...

  2. woodboatwayne has left a new comment on your post "[ME] Ex-Officer Reininger is in the news for guns ...":

Shane aka sean told persons in Rockport that he had a job in Atlanta, and others that he was heading south to Belize. I believe both to be a ruse. Design speed of the Vega is aprox 5 knots sail or power. He left Rockport at aprox 0830.
He has very limited sailing ability, so I would geuss he would be motoring. I suspect he hasn't gotten 50 miles. When I tried to file the theft of service charges yesterday I didn't know he was using an alias, so I will go today with his real name and info gleaned from this and other websights. Look for him from port o'conner to port mansfield on the icw. if he attempts a gulf crossing look for him to be lost. I am worried for the 11 year old more than my money. He had someone retrieve the short wheel base older body style chevy sport side pick up (black and dark purple, lowered), that he was using in Rockport.

  3. On the comment above

"then re-kidnaped that same child over a year and a half ago following his arrest in N.J. The mother of that child is still searching for her son."

Actually it was Grandpa Reininger that pulled the young boy out of school in less than an hour after Ex-1 (obeying the law) dropped of the young boy at the school and Ex-1 hasn't seen him since!

My belief as to why Rockport PD didn't accept "theft of services" against Dustin is that his daddy has a lot of pull and influence in Rockport and that part of the county.

  4. Soooooooo many rumors!

These convictions in NJ were any of them actually felonies? (allegedly NJ doesn’t use the term “felony”

If Dustin is found will NJ actually extradite him to NJ?

Dustin has several family members (his father/aunt/cousins, don’t know if his brother has moved back) in Rockport, Tx, is anyone law enforcement or otherwise watching/checking them to find Dustin and or his son? (I don’t expect anyone to really answer this one)

Instituting some legal steps and bail is not difficult to appeal and change. What's sad is his family is already up to their old tricks aiding him in snatching his son. Mark my words, he will run again. Then, Karma will come again, my friends. Let's just all hope safety of the children and mothers will be protected. This is sadly a great example of major failure of the justice system. NOTHING can go on forever. If it wasn't for this site, those of us that fear him would have never seen it coming.

  20. Be careful. Written within the last few days:

"...Currently in 2011 Dustin is still fighting Extradition from Texas to New Jersey and Dustin doesn’t know if tomorrow he will be in New Jersey for 17 years or in Texas still fighting. Dustin’s Parents remain in Handicap and Bed Ridden needing Dustin’s care daily. Dustin has lost everything over his legal problems with his 2nd Ex-Wife and New Jersey’s Unconstitutional Firearm Charges. He has lost Full Custody of his Son from his 1st Wife, Possibility of never seeing his Daughter again, Career, Job, House, Vehicle, Freedom, and will more than likely lose his Parents while he is in Jail in New Jersey serving time for Legally Owned and Transported Firearms and all from the Snow Ball and Domino Effect from his 2nd Ex-Wife. We must also note that during Dustin’s New Jersey Trial where he was convicted and not present, Dustin’s Attorney proved that Dustin was following the Federal Law Title 18 of the US Code by Transporting his Firearms because the Officer testified that the Firearms were Transported in such manner and agreed that Dustin was just driving thru the State and Moving, but the New Jersey District Attorney stated that New Jersey’s Law Supersedes the Federal Law and that the Federal Law has no place in New Jersey’s Courts. When in fact the New Jersey State Police Web Site at the time of Dustin’s Arrest showed on their front page the Federal Law Title 18 of the US Code and that that was how one could move thru the State of New Jersey with their Firearms which Dustin was following. Dustin understands that New Jersey has major problems with organized crime with Firearms but the Laws in New Jersey is not distinguishing between Criminals and Law Abiding Citizens and is taking away Constitutional Rights to those moving thru the State. In the long run the ones really hurt from all of this is Dustin’s kids, they will be scared for the rest of their life on how they were taken away from their father and how their father was treated. Texas needs to step up and protect their citizen from being extradited, Texas has that right under the Uniform Extradition Act. New Jersey needs to let this man go free and have his life back..."

  21. The above posting seems/sounds just like Dustin, it’s his classic; “Poor me, wounded bird syndrome, all my losses are the fault of someone else, all my troubles are the fault of someone else, all my legal issues are the fault of someone else!”
It has nothing to do with his inability to face the fact that he did this to himself!

(The uppercase usage is not intended as shouting, it’s just making a point of disbelief in the post above)

    1. Dustin’s Parents remain in Handicap and Bed Ridden needing Dustin’s care daily ??????. – SO HOW WAS HE CARING FOR THEM WHILE HE WAS ON THE RUN???? HIS OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS DIDN’T HELP?? HAS HIS FATHER QUIT OR SOLD HIS FISHING CHARTER BUSINESS?? HE HAS SIBLINGS, AUNTS AND UNCLES THAT CAN ATTEND TO THIS, ONE OF THEM IS THE SAME PERSON THAT CASHED HIS FEW REMAINING CHILD SUPPORT CHECKS FOR HIM AND WIRED HIM THE MONEY.
    2. Dustin has lost everything over his legal problems - He has lost Full Custody of his Son, Career, Job, House, Vehicle – SOUNDS LIKE DUSTINS WRITINGS
    3. Lose his Parents while he is in Jail in New Jersey serving time – SO WASN’T HE CONCERNED ABOUT THIS BEFORE HE RAN.
    4. Dustin’s New Jersey Trial where he was convicted and not present, - BECAUSE HE RAN, EVEN HIS ATTORNEY WAS UPSET OVER HIS RUNNING!
    5. Dustin must be using his own personal version of Federal Law Title 18/CFR
    6. ANY ATTORNEY KNOWS THAT any state law NEVER supersedes the Federal Law!
    7. In the long run the ones really hurt from all of this is Dustin’s kids, they will be scared for the rest of their life on how they were taken away from their father and how their father was treated. – FUNNY HIS SON DOESN’T SAY THIS!
    8. PERSONALLY AFTER KEEPING HIS SON OUT OF SCHOOL AND SOCIALIZATION FOR NEARLY TWO YEARS, AND HIS HISTORY OF “RUNNING” WITH HIS SON THERE SHOULD BE A RESTRAINING ORDER AGAINST HIM, BECAUSE HE IS CURRENTLY RUNNING AROUND WHILE ON BOND FOR THE TEXAS CHARGES!

  22. I don't know who leatherneck1776 is but certainly has the facts. By the way, he researched heavily ALL the gun laws in the northeast in order to move to a state that was the least restrictive. Long before doing this research, he know state law did not supersede federal law. He's already violated a current retraining order. I just read about another man (not the man on this site) that he stole thousands from. I just hope people are warned about him through this site or somehow before he hurts even more people or worse.

  25. Texan passing through New Jersey sentenced to five years in prison on gun charges
    Hunterdon County Democrat
    By Lillian Shupe
    November 21, 2011
[Excerpts] A Texas man [Dustin Shane Reininger] who was convicted of weapons charges at a trial he did not attend was sentenced on Friday to five years in state prison... The jury found Reininger guilty of unlawful possession of rifles, third degree; unlawful possession of shotguns, third degree; possession of prohibited weapons or devices, fourth degree; possession of large-capacity ammunition magazines, fourth degree; hindering apprehension, third degree; and obstructing the administration of law, fourth degree. After the verdict was delivered, Judge Rubin revoked Reininger’s bail and issued a warrant for his arrest. With help of the United States Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force, Reininger was taken into custody by the Galveston County Sheriff’s Department on April 14. Since his return to New Jersey in September he has been held in the county jail without bail. When he was arrested in Texas, authorities there charged him with failure to identify and intent to give false information to law enforcement officers... A web site defending Reininger and asking for help in paying for legal costs has been set up by his family. According to the site, Reininger claims his federal constitutional rights have been violated and says he is innocent. He argues that state law cannot supersede federal law... The web site claims that Reininger was too sleepy when police were questioning him to respond intelligently... Reininger turned down an offer that would have had him serve 90 days in jail if he pleaded guilty to four counts, the site said. Reininger rejected the deal because he did not want to have a criminal record, according to the site. He did not expect to be convicted because he thought he would be cleared based on federal law, the site said. Reininger also claims his two ex-wives have been spreading lies about him because they are mad that he divorced them. However, Reininger was arrested in Maine in 2008 and charged with threatening his first wife with a gun. The second wife also made claims of domestic violence, according to official reports.

    Reading this was sooooo funny!!!

According to the site, Reininger often parked in bank or church parking lots to sleep while he traveled because they were well lit, often patrolled by police and therefore safer. - WHICH WAS WHY HE WAS PARKED BEHIND THE BANK????

He claims police only searched his SUV because he had Texas plates and therefore the officer assumed there would be weapons. He claims the search began before a warrant was obtained. - WHAT A POOZER, IT'S CALLED "IN PLAIN SIGHT" AS STATED BY THE UNITED STATES SUPREME COURT!!

but gives great detail of what happened from his point of view. - DOESN'T HE ALWAYS!!!

Reininger turned down an offer that would have had him serve 90 days in jail if he pleaded guilty to four counts, the site said. Reininger rejected the deal because he did not want to have a criminal record, according to the site. - HE IS DEFINITELY INTELLECTUALLY CHALLENGED, WHY LISTEN TO YOUR LAWYER!

Reininger also claims his two ex-wives have been spreading lies about him because they are mad that he divorced them. - THEY WERE GLAD TO GET AWAY FROM HIM!
