  1. ST. TAMMANY DEPUTY IS BOOKED ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CHARGE

A St. Tammany Parish deputy was arrested Wednesday after investigators determined he had punched his live-in girlfriend in the eye during an argument the day after Christmas, authorities said.

Christopher Howell, who has worked in the parish jail for about two years, allegedly struck his girlfriend on Dec. 26 during a fight in their home near Pearl River, Sheriff's Office spokesman Cpl. Sean Beavers said. The woman called deputies to the home about 6:50 p.m., after Howell had left the house and a friend had come over to help her, Beavers said.

After interviewing the woman, deputies went looking for Howell and found him a short time later, Beavers said. Howell denied hitting his girlfriend and said he had been on the phone with his mother during the entire argument, he said.

Howell's badge and commission were immediately revoked and he was fired within hours, but he was not immediately arrested because investigators wanted to speak with his mother and gather more evidence in the case, Beavers said. Howell, 27, was booked Wednesday with domestic battery with child endangerment because his girlfriend's 7-year-old daughter was present during the alleged fight. He was released later in the day on a $3,500 bond.

  2. Amen! Sheriff Jack Strain sets a great example of how these situations should be handled. Thank you Sheriff Strain! I feel safer living in Louisiana because of you.

  3. I was talkin' to our surrogate papa and he told me to tell you about this. I just hadn't gotten to you yet.

I started poking around and Sheriff Strain doesn't play.

  4. Ex sheriff strain is in a world of legal trouble now and the current sheriff apparently rehired the reprobate Howell and his brother to boot. Somebody please do another updated story.
