[Excerpts] ...41-year-old Brent Dupras is accused of breaking into his girlfriend's home while she slept - and it's not the first time he's been in trouble with the law. This latest incident happened Tuesday night in Halfmoon, and tonight, Dupras’ boss the sheriff says he's fed up with the deputy. Sgt. Brent Dupras has spent 17 years with the sheriff's department... FOX23 News tried to call him for his side of the story... Investigators say Dupras went to the home to try to talk to his former girlfriend [LB]. She turned him away, but he didn't stay gone for long - allegedly breaking in through a window air conditioning unit... [LB] says, “I was sleeping in bed and all of a sudden my bedroom light turned on and Brent was standing at the end of my bed. He immediately walked over to where I keep my cell phone and grabbed it to start looking through it.” [LB] called 911 but says Dupras grabbed the phone and slammed it down. The sheriff's department called back. [LB] says Dupras told her to “tell them everything was ok. He said he just wanted to talk. He proceeded to tell me to tell the dispatcher that everything was okay.” Dupras left before State Police arrived, but later turned himself in to be charged with burglary and criminal mischief. He was also charged with harassing his estranged wife several years ago, a charge that was later dropped, but the situation led Dupras to miss several Cambridge School Board meetings and ultimately lose his seat... Dupras' boss Saratoga County Sheriff James Bowen says the deputy will have to face the consequences. Bowen says, “I'm embarrassed for the people of Saratoga County. I've tried hard to give them a police department they can be proud of. This is an embarrassment to the whole department, every one of us, every man and woman that's in this department that works hard to make it go”... [Full article here]

This whole situation is being blowed way out proportion. Dupras paid rent for the residence he was entering. There for to accuse for trespassing would be wrong. The news and the press should feel ashamed for putting Dupras's friends and family in this position it was unthoughtful and just rude. No one was using there head in this situation even Dupras, but no one knows what went on between Dupras and Barrett if there was tention between them she may have been fe'd up and wanted him to feel punished for there relationship going no where. Over all i hope everyone got a kick out of this because i know the Dupras family and friends are going threw very hard times right now with the news showing up at there house, and the children facing the emberassment. Thank you everyone involved in this for putting these innocent people in theses positions... [LINK]

[Excerpts] A 17-year veteran of the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department was arrested by State Police early Wednesday morning and charged with burglary. Brent Dupras, 41, of Cambridge, was arrested at 2 a.m. Wednesday in Halfmoon. He is charged with second-degree burglary, a felony... Dupras has been a sergeant in the Sheriff’s Department for four years. He was suspended without pay today, according to Sheriff James Bowen... According to District Attorney James A. Murphy III, Dupras is accused of breaking into the home he once shared with his ex-girlfriend. Murphy said the pair had spoken at around 8 p.m. and the woman asked Dupras to leave her home. He did, but returned at around 11:30 p.m. Murphy said Dupras pushed an air conditioning unit into a second floor window and climbed through. The victim woke to find Dupras in her bedroom and an argument ensued. The woman tried to call 911 on her cell phone and Dupras allegedly grabbed it out of her hand. She called again on her house phone and the call was answered by dispatchers at the Sheriff’s Department... Dupras was at the home when police arrived and he was not armed, Murphy said... Another member of the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department was arrested last August and charged with sexually abusing several women while on duty. He is serving a six month sentence in Saratoga County Jail. [Full article here]

  1. Finally, he got what he deserved. He has been giving cops a bad name for a long time.

  2. Dupras' court date was this week. I cannot find anything on it. This guy has been a bad cop for 20 years. He used to brag about sleeping on duty. We found him once sleeping in his patrol car, snuck up on him and blew our horn. That was awesome to see him jump awake.

  3. All kinds of tricky things could have happened to his court date - or his charges.

  4. Now a behind closed doors deal with the DA will put this guy back on the streets with nothing more than a slap on the wrist. When are these people going to put a stop to this lunacy ? Rumor has it he is a sergeant and will be in charge. Unreal! If it were me, I would be in prison. Good ole boy politics once again.

  8. This man has no right to be a cop. He is a disgrace and an embarrassment. He gives us all nothing but a black eye.

  9. The public should know that he was excused from the drug task force after being accused of stealing overtime. Then he became a counselor at the police academy where again he was often a no show. This was all swept under the rug.

  10. just watch her house, he will not stay away and then he can get charged with violating the stay away order.....she can't dispute those charges, they are signed by the officer who witnesses the violation....do it within 6 months and the charges come back into play

  11. The guy is like Teflon Don. How many times do you have to be caught to make it stick. Not even a demotion. He is out there actually telling other cops what to do..

  12. The FBI should investigate the department, the DA's office, the whole shooting match. Lets see how many heads roll. This is an outrage. A petition should be started for the resignation of all involved.

  13. I agree with that. The man needs to go. It is time for the public to see all that he has done. They would be amazed and shocked what is allowed to go on.

  14. This man is indeed a disgrace. He arrested me on a pretext in January 2002 for "disorderly conduct." The nature of the disturbance was that I had slipped and fallen in an icy restaurant parking lot in a snowstorm after having a glass of wine. I suffered a head injury. He subsequently put me in overly tight handcuffs and leg shackles, and mashed his fist into my right eye socket. Then he hogtied me and made me lie down on the floor in the Sheriff substation, while the blood dripped off my head into the carpet. He yanked a phone out of the wall and shoved it into my face, saying, "You broke the phone! You broke the phone! You were going to get five days, you're going to get ten days now!" He then dragged me out to see a town justice who went to high school with him. I was hysterical, bleeding, and crying at this point, and told this judge that Dupras had hit me. This "justice" sentenced me to 10 days in jail for "civil contempt of court" because I didn't immediately stop talking when he told me to when I was pleading for his help. After this, Dupras dragged me out to the courthouse parking lot and hit me some more in his vehicle - in my right eye again, the left side of my nose, and several times in my belly, saying, "That's for not keeping quiet."

This man is violent and unscrupulous. What kind of man hits a woman with a head injury while she is handcuffed and leg-shackled? This man is a criminal who ought to be locked up. However, he is running around in our community with a badge and a gun instead.

  15. Why do I get the feeling that the same person keeps posting?

    ReplyDelete
  16. I don't believe that is true. The grammar is completely different. I just think this man has made a lot of people upset.

  17. He is an embarrassment, as is the entire department. If the public only knew what was going on within this department. The administration is a complete joke....but that's what happens when you have elected the same Sheriff for 35 plus years. When someone holds that much power for that long period of time, things will only continue to get worse. The politics run far too deep within this department, and this is just a scratch of the surface of whats really going on.
