POLICE OFFICER NO LONGER ON FORCE
Lee's Summit Tribune, mo
Matt Bird-Meyer
6/27/2008
A Lee's Summit police officer who was investigated following the death of his wife and child is no longer on the force. Master Police Officer Caleb Horner's last day was Friday, June 20. City officials refused to comment on an internal investigation, which was initiated to determine if Horner violated any department or city policies. The investigation came shortly after Jackson County Prosecutor James Kanatzar in December 2007 declined to file charges against Horner. The officer's wife, Misty Horner, died Jan. 9, 2007 about a month after her daughter, Sydney, died at birth on Dec. 8, 2006. Misty refused medical treatment during and after the home-birth, which was in line with the couple's religious beliefs. Kanatzar said he made his decision based on the lack of proof to sustain manslaughter or child endangerment charges... [Full article here]

TINA MOORE, ONE OF MISTY'S BEST FRIENDS:
"I don't think I'm ever going to, in my opinion, have justice just because he's not going to be brought up on any criminal charges - but at least now he'll have to find another line of work... He's been paid, from what we understand, this entire time. I guess that's just how it works..."

CALEB HORNER OFF LS POLICE FORCE
Lee's Summit Journal, MO
By Brett Daltont
Wednesday, Jun. 25, 2008
...city officials would not say whether Caleb Horner voluntarily left the force or was removed. “We don’t comment on personnel action”... The controversy surrounding their deaths stemmed from the lack of medical attention given during Misty’s pregnancy and during delivery. According to her family members, Misty refused medical treatment due to her religious beliefs, which were thought to be influenced by Caleb Horner and his brother, John Horner Jr. Misty Horner’s family said she was “brainwashed” and they wanted charges brought against Caleb, but the Jackson County prosecutor announced in December that no charges would be filed.... AFTER DEATH OF WIFE AND BABY OFFICER HORNER GETS INDEFINITE LEAVE

[Excerpts from initial 8 articles] ...No criminal investigation has been initiated and no charges filed. Police Chief Ken Conlee said there is nothing to investigate... According to Misty's family, the couple declined medical treatment because of they believed scientific healing was an affront to the healing power of Jesus Christ. THOSE SAME BELIEFS LED CALEB TO ISOLATE HIS WIFE FROM HER FAMILY, EXCEPT FOR FEW BRIEF VISITS, they said... The Mansfield's received a rare opportunity to visit their daughter after the still birth in December. Gail said the effects of the infection were apparent. "I SAID 'MY DAUGHTER HAS AN INFECTION. SHE'S DYING'," Gail said. "He said 'You know I don't believe in doctors. That's God's will.' He said Satan took their baby"... The Mansfields would not see their daughter for nearly two weeks; they said Caleb refused to let them see her... When Misty died, she looked nothing like the vibrant woman the family had always known. Her face was bloated. Her fingernails were blackened. Her hands were so swollen and wrinkled the funeral home placed them at her sides instead of the traditional way, on the abdomen.... "He wanted to change her whole life, get her to be submissive... and he did," Mansfield said.... "It's the Horner belief. I asked Caleb, 'Where did you get your teachings?' 'My brother, John'"...

OFFICER'S WIFE MISTY HORNER & BABY'S DEATH WILL BE REVIEWED

[Excerpts from 4 articles] On Dec. 31, police again were called to the Horner home to check on her welfare. According to police dispatch notes, a caller reported that Misty was “very sick” and possibly dying with a “very high fever” and that she was crying out in pain. Police again went to the home. Again, she refused medical treatment, police said. Police returned to the Horner home on Jan. 9. Misty had died, 31 days after the delivery... Misty Horner was the former Misty Mansfield of Sugar Creek. At the time of the couple's engagement in 2003 she was a dispatcher for the Lee's Summit Police Department. She stepped down as a dispatcher in November, 2006, in expectation of caring for her child... In a statement released late Friday, Mayor Karen Messerli said Horner, a nine-year veteran patrol officer, will remain off duty on a leave of absence while the police department and other agencies review the matter...

COP HORNER'S MOM-IN-LAW TRUSTING THAT HE'LL BE ARRESTED

...KMBC's Dan Weinbaum reported that Thursday's interviews are part of an ongoing inquiry into the deaths of Misty and her stillborn child, Sydney. While no criminal investigation has ever begun, there has been an internal police probe into what happened, officials said... Misty's mother said she has faith in the police department. "I think they will pick Caleb up and possibly (his) sisters, too -- it's got to be stopped," Gail Mansfield said. "Picked up?" Weinbaum asked. COP'S WIFE -MISTY HORNER'S AUTOPSY IS SEALED.

...The complete autopsy report, which contains the exact cause of death, is still unavailable to the public, said Mike Childs, public information officer for the LSPD... We, the undersigned residents of the City of Lee?s Summit, MO, petition our Lee?s Summit Police Department to consider the serious concerns of the undersigned with the ability Caleb Horner to serve and protect us if allowed to return to duty as a member of our police force for the following reasons: He denied life-saving aid to his breeched, infant daughter for five days while he and two sisters attempted homebirth based on his religious beliefs, and he assisted his wife, who stated that she had to be submissive to her husband, in refusing life-saving aid for over a month as she died...

"Again, this is NOT a matter of her refusing medical treatment.

This is a case of an abusive, controlling, domineering husband refusing to allow his wife to seek medical treatment. THAT is what makes him guilty of her murder.

Left to her own devices and free of his manipulative, cult-like influence, OF COURSE she would have sought medical treatment! Any sane person would!

Make no mistake about it, the blood of Misty Horner and her baby are all over the hands of Caleb Horner, his brother, his father and the Lee's Summit Police Department"

  3. The true followers of the God of Israel followed the Lord even to death. The 11th chapter of Hebrews in the New Testament tells us some awful things that happened to the TRULY faithful ones - MANY of them died horrific and violent deaths ---- BUT, they are now in the presence of the Father in His GLORIOUS abode for all the faithful ones! That’s the point.

What happened to those who retreated, blew a whistle and called "time out" because death was coming into view? They were the unfaithful ones, the ones for whom the Lake of Fire has awaited, as we read in the book of Revelation. Their names are not listed in Hebrews 11, and like most of the current church world calling itself Christian, they will spend an eternity in hell as nobodies in a tragic, horrific punishment for eternity. That’s the other point!

Caleb Horner was acting according to the Word of God in obedience. Since most of the church world is in apostasy, most “Christians” today like to call good “evil” and evil “good”.

Modern Medicine arose out of COMPLETELY PAGAN OCCULTISM, and even up until today requires 1)swearing an oath (forbidden in the Bible), and 2) swearing to named pagan gods and goddesses - deliberately leaving out of course the only true God of the Bible. You think you know a Christian doctor – ask them how they justified swearing to pagan gods as they did, and if they ever repented from it!

Being a doctor in Luke’s day meant you worshipped in the temple of Asclepius and so did your patients. There is no way Luke would have continued being one of “them” while still claiming to follow and do the works of Jesus.

Paul did not have an incurable eye disease, but he had a constant “pain in the butt” – spiritually speaking, and the word used for “thorn” meant a “person” similar to how we use this expression. It was never, in over 80 times used in the Bible, ever referred to anything literally, but rather a person – “angelos”.

Modern medicine is truly another "god", and the God of the Bible gave us the Blood of His Son Jesus as COMPLETE remedy for our sickness, just as much as He did for our sins.

Any other "gospel" or way of thinking is adding to the gospel, and itself brings upon the believer a trip to the Lake of Fire as well. Read the Book of Revelation.

  4. From Matthew, Chapter 25

..."Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'

"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'

"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

"Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.'

"They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?'

"He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me'...

  5. Those people who faced death stood up for their beliefs and were killed - not sick with a condition that could be treated. In honor of them I won't post anymore of what you say unless you stand up for what you believe and not hide behind "anonymous." You've got a lot of nerve hiding while referring to people who died for being identified as Christians.

And you know that Paul recommended a remedy for a stomach ailment, right? You've read the Book, right?

Let's see if you can twist Jesus' words as easily as you take liberty with Paul's. What did Jesus say that justified watching Misty and Sydney die without trying a few things out of Caleb's comfort zone to afford them life?

    ReplyDelete
  6. To the person who has written 2 other lengthy posts that I'm not posting because as you say, "I would not want to have either my name nor my book left in someones hands who can take my words and craft them however they wish."

But since in your comments (here unpublished) you state that you are not related in anyway to this case - here's some advice. Go make your stand somewhere else. You don't know the people involved and their specific beliefs then - though they may intersect with your own. This would not be the place for you to promote your book by agreeing that no help should have been provided.

And in your reply you did NOT address that Paul offered a MEDICINAL remedy for Timothy's frequent sickness:

    1st Timothy, Chapter 5, Verse 23

    NKJV Version:
No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for your stomach’s sake and your frequent infirmities.

    NIV Version:
Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses.

    NASB Version:
No longer drink water exclusively, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments.

YOU wrote to me that, "Just as there are NO further things we need to do for sins, there is NOTHING we need (nor should do for disease)."

    Tell Paul that.
And tell Timothy to not listen to Paul.
And if Paul is inspired by God, I guess you better tell God too.

OR humble yourself before your God and don't jump in here over a real set of deaths that have left in their wake a trail of broken hearts in order to spew your myopic interpretations over their graves.

    Push off.

  7. Very well said.
Unfortunately this is what happens when very simple people are led by men outside of the apostolic succession, teaching them whatever opinions and interpretations seem to make sense to them in the moment. People, please, if you're going to follow Christ, follow His Church which has not changed for 2,000 years. They can give you some much, much needed correction of interpretation of the New Testament texts. The Bible is a powerful thing, not to be interpreted by whoever opens it up - otherwise you get this sort of tragic event taking place along with countless others throughout modern times. Google "orthodox church history" and learn a little bit about where all these different sects, cults, and "christian" denominations have sprung from. And learn that the 2,000 year old Church of Christianity is still alive and well, for those of you who really thirst for Truth and the correct interpretation of Christ's teachings - which teach above all, LOVE. If Christ were in that room with Misty, there's no way he would have been so legalistic as to deny her COMPASSION and LOVE 1st and foremost. That is God. Wake up, America. Christianity is not something that can be reinterpreted by whoever today's newest self-proclaimed prophet is. Come to the True Church, the Holy Orthodox Church that has been going steadily and lovingly for 2,000 years. And may God bless that poor woman and her innocent baby.

  8. To Behind The Blue Wall~

You are an enemy of truth. You are controlling what your readers are exposed to by not posting the other side of the "lengthy" post writer. It's shameful to post such malicious and twisted events by rewriting history. I knew both Misty and Caleb. I ran into Misty shopping one day while she was about 7 months pregnant. I asked her if she was having a boy or girl and she said she didn't know because she didn't want to go to an OBGYN. I was surprised by her response which didn't go unnoticed to her and SHE on her own, not in the presences of Caleb, adamantly stated she didn't want a doctor to stick a needle (referring to a fetal monitor) into her baby's head and also administer injections of immunization shots. Now, I have had several children and I don't necessarily subscribe to the same thought process but, there is something to be said about the vast numbers of children who have died at the hands of getting immunizations. Misty also asked me to come over so I could read the research she did. This was not a women who was soft spoken or easily manipulated as the news reporters have painted...by the way did they even know her???? Obviously not!! She had made up her mind. That decision was not obviously popular to many or even myself included but it does not give any of you the right to change history and put words or emotions that did not exist in the mouth of that dead woman. They were deeply in love and Misty would have died a death ten times over if she knew her parents and so-called best friends were stripping her husband's reputation of being anything other than a righteous and a loving man to all that came in contact with him. The only thing he executed was his wife's wishes and you are executing the truth. It's shameful.

It's so easy for his advisories to point fingers because it's easy and after all the dead can't speak! Misty's best friend who has been behind the scenes to have Caleb fired told the news that he performed an episiotomy.....oh that monster....but they failed to report SHE was the one reading the instructions out loud. The friends who came over with an ambulance down the street claimed Caleb threw them out....but they failed to mention they came over demanding to speak to Caleb when the couple were sleeping and exhausted from days of labor. If you wife didn't want visitors at all hours after delivering a still born would you honor her wish? Hospitals even have visiting hours! If your phone was ringing off the hook while your wife was trying to get some rest what would you do? Perhaps unplug it? Sure you would. But yet when this man does all the above his wrongful enemies make him a monster and actually say he's controlling in a negative manner. Does he not have the right to do this or the responsibility as the man of his own house to make those decisions to restore peace after such a tragedy? Should he have just left the door open for masses of people to come in and out at all times of the night? Heaven forbid that gets reported! There are always two sides of every story and it is the ignorant that don't give pause to the other side. The truth may not be popular put we don't have to have a villain in every story. Sometimes life deals us a sucky card and maybe it's just a test to see how we deal with strife. Losing a loved one is the most heart wrenching setback imaginable. But at some point we have to get back up and live the rest of our life. Demonizing Caleb, filing lawsuits against him, stating that he wasn't the father of Misty's stillborn in order to receive a paycheck and rewriting history that your daughter would then be a whore is grotesque. I can't bear as a friend to hear those things and knowing that they are coming from her own parents is just sick and only strips Misty's honor.

I pray that the true enemy doesn't take anymore real estate in the hearts of the suffering.

You ran into Misty at the grocery store?

Then discuss how tired they were when they got into bed at night?

    Whoops.

  10. None of you truely know Misty, Caleb, or John Horner, exept for the last Anonymous writer, your facts seemed really strait. Misty chose to have a home birth because SHE WANTED TO! no one made her. John definately influenced his brother, but you cant be talking bad about them about something that wasnt entirely their fault. My whole family was crushed by Sydney and Mistys death! I hated that they wouldnt go to the hospital but we couldnt make them. Caleb didnt throw any one out! John did! Caleb was in his room with his wife greiving over their lost child. Dont talk bad about some one until you know all of the facts!

  12. from one anonymous to another. first of all mistys parents have never said caleb was not the father of syndey. and futhermore i know for a fact that misty told her best friend which was her mother... that mom caleb said if it gets to be to much ,he will take me to the hospital, he loves me mom , he would never let anything happen to me.. also when calebs father came into the room and told caleb stop hoarsing around or i will see you at the funeral home next... the father was ask to leave from caleb , to leave calebs house because he lost his faith and was finally going against caleb, trying to save misty so dont go there, i personally know what happen . i was there and i heard it all.she was told by caleb the devil took our child.... thats not a stable person or a christian... misty said ..he loves me ,,he wont let anyone hurt me .. boy was she fooled...she started the teachings of wendy and caleb and john jr and amber soon after dating caleb in john jrs yard in stratburg mo. so before you talk about the parents have your facts right. remember misty had two best friends tina and her mother that misty confided in truthfully. heres one for you ,,, did you know that caleb told mistys mom after she was dead.... im sorry ...i made a mistake. no you dont know but i know i was there........
