[PA] Officer Kelly gun threat-to-wife charges - "free on bond"

A Waynesburg police officer is on unpaid administrative leave after he was charged with simple assault and terroristic threats for allegedly pointing a handgun at his wife in Fayette County. Robert Lee Kelly II, 25, of Rices Landing in Greene County also was charged with reckless endangerment and harassment... According to state police at Uniontown, Kelly and his wife, [S] Kelly, 21, were driving to her mother's South Union residence when they began arguing. [S] Kelly told police her husband grabbed her hair when she tried to get out of the vehicle. She said he pulled out his handgun, a .40-caliber Glock 23, pointed it at her and said he "was going to do them both a favor" When he parked the car and walked around to her side, she locked the door and he pointed the gun at her through the window... "Patrolman Kelly has been put on unpaid administrative leave effective immediately, and pending an internal investigation into the incident that has been reported," [Waynesburg police Chief Timothy] Hawfield said yesterday. Kelly, who is free on bond, faces a hearing before George at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday...

...Robert Lee Kelly II, 25, of Rices Landing, was charged by state police with simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats and harassment... He pointed the pistol at his wife through the window and told her to unlock the door... [S] Kelly got out of the truck and ran. She hid in a nearby field while her husband drove up and down the road looking for her, police said... Robert Kelly told police that the two had argued and he had pointed the gun at his head and threatened to shoot himself. He also said he pointed the weapon at the window, but declined to elaborate further...He had previously worked as a part-time officer for the Irwin and South Greensburg police departments. He also had been a corrections officer at Fayette County Prison.
