I wanted to take the time to let those that are curious know what my family and I have been through. I'm the stepson of David Turkos. Because of his treatment of me and my family especially my mom, I now pretty much dislike all cops. I figure that they are all cruel mentally impaired monsters like my former "Dad". You see he was very much my dad to me. My real dad lives far away and doesn't see me often. Mom and I met him when I was only 4. Right away I liked him, and he really seemed to like me. He treated me and mom very well, took us to lots of places, bought me and mom stuff and was really great to us. He made me feel like I was his real kid and treated mom like she was the princess I thought she was. But after mom married dad, it all changed. He started yelling at mom a lot, cursing at her, calling her bad names and I heard it all. About a month later the best dad was becoming mean to me too. Mom then had a baby, my little brother around Easter that year and he got even worse yet yelling at us ,scaring us, breaking things and threatening to hurt my mom a lot. Sometimes he was nice to us and I wish he stayed that way but it didn't last. I thought he killed my mom one time. He choked her in front of us until she passed out when my mom was pregnant with my youngest brother and I was crying over her because she didn't get up right away. He kept saying she should die because she was nothing to him. But she was someone to us . She always stuck up for us when he started saying mean things and then he would get very angry at her for it. Sometimes we seen him throw her around the room and put her in holds like you see cops do with criminals and say he's taking all of us away from her because I think he knew that mom cared more for us then him. He would say he was going to kill mom and we would never see her again and he's a cop. Nothing will happen to him. I hate him for all that he's done. The papers had most of the story right except that my youngest brother 4, of the two got slapped really hard in the face by dad. The little guy does'nt really know what's going on because he's autistic and does not understand a lot of things. Everyone forgot that even though my 6 year old brother did not get hit , he hid, he still has bad nightmares and is never the same like the rest of us. We are all afraid of cops still and we get therapy. But all the bad memories won't go away for good. I don't think I could trust another cop again.

  3. Suit alleges Dupont PD failed to enforce law
Woman says police didn’t enforce PFA violations committed by her husband, a part-time police officer.
    The Wilkes-Barre Times Leader
    By Terrie Morgan-Besecker tmorgan@timesleader.com
    December 16, 2009

SCRANTON – A Dupont woman has filed a federal lawsuit against the borough’s police department and two officers, alleging they refused to investigate allegations that her husband, who was also a part-time borough police officer, had violated a protection-from-abuse order she had obtained.

Donna Turkos, of Elm Street, also alleges officer John Saranchuk falsely charged her with filing a false report, harassment and disorderly conduct in order to cover up and justify his conduct in failing to investigate the alleged PFA violations.

The suit, filed Monday by attorney Barry Dyller, says police repeatedly refused Turkos’ pleas to investigate after she reported her husband, David Turkos, was violating a PFA by slowly driving by her home in a menacing manner.

In addition to the borough police department and Saranchuk, the suit names Police Chief Anthony Demark and David Turkos as defendants.

According to the suit: David Turkos assaulted his wife and stepson during a domestic dispute on March 2, 2008, fracturing his wife’s arm. During the assault, David Turkos told her, “You can’t do anything. I am the law.”

David Turkos, who no longer works for the department, was charged with aggravated assault and related offenses after the incident. He later pleaded guilty to two counts of simple assault and harassment. He was also forbidden from contacting his wife under the conditions of an emergency PFA she obtained on March 3, 2008, and a final protection order issued on June 10, 2008.

On June 19, Donna Turkos witnessed her husband drive slowly past her residence. He did so again on at least 17 other occasions over the next month. Sometimes David Turkos would stare at her in a threatening manner, she claims.

Fearing for her safety, Donna Turkos contacted Saranchuk, but he refused to investigate, telling her that her street was a public road and that David Turkos could travel it “as many times as he liked.”

The suit says Donna Turkos sought help from DeMark, but he, too, refused to investigate or to file a written report of her allegations.

On Aug. 22, 2008, Saranchuk filed charges against Donna Turkos in connection with the complaints she filed about her husband. A district judge dismissed the charges on Sept. 23, 2008, ruling police had failed to present sufficient evidence, the suit says.

The suit alleges the charges were meant to cover up Saranchuk and DeMark’s efforts to protect David Turkos.

Contacted Tuesday, DeMark denied allegations police ignored Donna Turkos’ requests to investigate. DeMark said the investigation of the assault and subsequent alleged PFA violations were turned over to state police because of David Turkos’ position with the department.

“We did everything we had to do at the beginning of the whole incident. We contacted state police and they said they’d take the case from then on,” DeMark said. “When anything happened we’d respond only if a trooper couldn’t make it to the house.”

DeMark also defended the filing of charges against Donna Turkos. DeMark said he patrols the town frequently and did not believe David Turkos was driving by as many times as his wife alleged.

DeMark said Donna Turkos was coming by the station frequently to file complaints.

“It got to the point it got to be harassing,” DeMark said. “Our concern was we were getting all these complaints about it. There was no merit to most of it.”

  4. Ex-Dupont police officer gets 6-12 months for corruption
David Andrew Turkos masturbated in front of young children 14 months ago.

WILKES-BARRE – A former part-time Dupont police officer was sentenced Thursday to six to 12 months in county prison on charges of corruption of minors.

David Andrew Turkos, 37, of Ash Street, was sentenced by Luzerne County Senior Judge Chester Muroski in a case in which prosecutors say he masturbated in front of several young children in January 2009.

One of the children, a boy, said Thursday the incidents have affected him so greatly that he has been unable to live a normal life.

“I can’t relate to other kids,” the boy said.

The boy’s mother also testified before Turkos was sentenced, saying Turkos believed he was above the law because he was a former police officer. She said what he did was “perverse” and “sick.”

Turkos, who was represented by attorney Sherry Dalessandro, said the children’s mother is accusing him of being a “power-hungry maniac.”

“I didn’t put those kids through hell,” he said.

Dalessandro asked that her client be given a sentence in the county’s Intermediate Punishment Program, or IPP. She said Turkos has been cooperative and pleaded guilty to the charge in December.

Assistant District Attorney Jill Matthews said she felt that the IPP sentence would be inappropriate and that Turkos deserved jail time. Matthews said she doesn’t believe Turkos thinks what he did is wrong.

Muroski agreed, and sentenced Turkos to six to 12 months in prison and ordered he be immediately incarcerated.

“I don’t trust him,” Muroski said. “I don’t like what I heard here today.”

Muroski ordered that Turkos undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation and have no contact with victims or their families.

According to court records, on Jan. 23 the county Children and Youth Services Agency was notified that Turkos would masturbate in his home in front of minor children between the ages of 4 and 12.

The children told investigators they thought what Turkos was doing was “weird and disgusting” and that it happened numerous times at different locations in the house.

Turkos told investigators that he didn’t mean for the children to see what he was doing and that he was watching pornography at the time.

Turkos was sentenced last December to six months probation on charges of simple assault and harassment in a March 3, 2008, assault on his wife, Donna, and his then-11-year-old stepson.

Turkos was a part-time police officer in Dupont at the time.
