A Dallas policeman is out of jail and on suspension -- while investigators follow up on assault charges filed by his former girlfriend who is also a Dallas police officer. Michael Yarbrough was released on bail late Wednesday. Officer Erin Kaschalk says Yarbrough belted her in the mouth during an angry confrontation over their recent break-up. She also told investigators that Yarbrough took her phone and would not allow her to call 911. In addition to assault charges, Yarbrough is also facing an internal police department investigation.

An off-duty Dallas police officer was arrested Wednesday after he was accused of beating up his girlfriend, another Dallas officer. Officer Michael Yarbrough, 37, was placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation. He was released from the Collin County Jail on one count of Class A misdemeanor assault, an offense with a penalty of up to one year in jail and a $4,000 fine. His girlfriend, Officer Erin Kaschalk, told police that they had broken up the week before because of the "physical violence in their relationship," according to an arrest warrant affidavit. She told police that she was packing her belongings when Officer Yarbrough returned to their North Dallas apartment about 2 a.m. Wednesday and accused her of sleeping with another man. She said that she was sitting on the couch when he yanked a blanket off her and punched her in the mouth. She also told officers that Officer Yarbrough took her phone and would not allow her to call 911, a police report said. He was not at the apartment when police arrived...
