U.S. MARSHALS' TOP 15 FUGITIVE NABBED IN N.C.
AMW Capture #1109
[Excerpts] Accused double murderer and AMW feature fugitive Albert James Turner was taken down in Concord, N.C., on March 5, 2010 – just one day before the fugitive was set to air on AMW’s 1,000th episode. While doing a media blitz for the show’s upcoming milestone, AMW host John Walsh spoke about the horrific crime on ABC’s “Live with Regis and Kelly.” Two individuals in N.C. got the surprise of their lives when they realized Turner – who they knew as “Joshua James” – was accused of murdering his wife and mother-in-law in front of his own children. The two viewers then sprung into action, phoning in the tip to the AMW Hotline. “Some individuals here in Concord recognized Turner after seeing the AMW promotion on the morning show,” said Sgt. Aaron Rankin of the Concord Police Department.  “Turner had presented himself as a homeless man down on his luck, and the tipsters had had some real in-depth conversations with this guy... Cops from the Concord Police Department raced to the potential locations as U.S. Marshals from Charlotte, N.C., rushed down to assist in the investigation... “Well, it feels good to assist in catching one of the U.S. Marshals’ 15 Most Wanted fugitives,” said Sgt. Rankin.  “We had him in custody within an hour of receiving the AMW tip, and it was a surprise to us, but we were happy to help out in such a large inter-agency effort.” Detective Kevin Monfort of the Rosenberg, Texas, Police Department – where the double murder case originated – couldn’t be happier about the apprehension. “The Turner kids are going to be ecstatic when they hear this,” said Detective Monfort. “I’m just so pumped up right now. I had spoken with the older kids and promised we would find Turner so they wouldn’t have to look over their shoulders anymore. It’s a great feeling to be able to make good on that promise.” “Detective Monfort and Lt. Bryan Leach of the Rosenberg Police Department had worked tirelessly for months on this case,” said Deputy U.S. Marshal Art Fernandez in Houston.... “Thanks to ‘America’s Most Wanted’ and a viewer tip, Turner will now get a different perspective on what it is like to be in prison,” said John F. Clark, Director of the U.S. Marshals Service. “The fact that he committed horrible crimes in front of his children makes his capture even more satisfying.” [Full article here]

MOTHER, GRANDMOTHER SLAUGHTERED IN FRONT OF CHILDREN
[Excerpts] ...When police arrived at the upscale home on Chestnut Drive, they discovered a horrible, heart-breaking crime scene: 66-year-old Betty-Jo Frank and her 39-year-old daughter, Keitha Frank Turner, had both been viciously attacked... [Keitha's] four children, Karissa, Jarius, Hayden and 5-year-old Kennedy were all on the second floor of the home when the slaughter took place. Cops say little Kennedy was actually sleeping in bed with her mom when the violence shattered their peaceful rest. What the Turner children witnessed and heard that night, no child should ever have to know.... Keitha and James had been married for 14 years, but friends and family say the relationship had been on the rocks for years because of his controlling, jealous, bullying behavior. Investigators learned that Keitha and the children had allegedly endured years of physical and mental abuse from James Turner and had finally mustered up the courage to leave him on the day of the murders. It was the day after Christmas, a day Keitha had secretly planned and looked forward to for months; a day when she could start a peaceful life and get her and the children away from James Turner. Friends and family members say Keitha knew leaving Turner was risky. Jennifer Muegge, Keitha's best friend and coworker said, "Keitha told me he would kill her if she ever left him"... Cops say Turner has been known to hide in closets to spy on his wife and family, follow and harass them at work and school, and generally create an environment of fear where he calls all the shots. James Turner is no stranger to violence, but his familiarity with it had always been as a professional working in law enforcement as a corrections officer. Turner worked as a prison guard at the Jester Unit prison complex in Sugar Land, Texas. He was hired by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in August 1992 and was employed there for more than 18 years.... Police believe Turner's experience working with inmates and escapees has provided him with a wealth of knowledge of what to do and not do as a fugitive. Because of his constant avoidance of paying child support to his prior wives, cops learned Turner never had a bank account... Turner had no paper trail one would expect a middle-class, suburban employee to possess. Turner's family says he was a loner who was always more comfortable alone in his garage than playing with his four children. They say he's also a workout buff who keeps his massive frame packed with muscle... Turner had been married twice before he married the deeply religious Keitha Frank. Keitha's parents, the Rev. Gene and Betty-Jo Frank, founded the Church of Living Waters in Rosenberg in 1978. The congregation flourished and grew under their leadership, growing to encompass a state-accredited, church-based school where Keitha served as a teacher and principal. Cops also learned that 45-year-old Turner has a history of scaring the women who fall for him away with brutish, jealous behavior. Cops say Turner has been known to hide in closets to spy on his wife and kids, follow and harass them at work and school, and generally create an environment of fear where he calls all the shots. Turner's daughter, Karissa, told AMW that she first witnessed her father physically attack her mother when she was just 6 years old. "It got really bad, so we were going to leave and as we were walking out to the car he came out and stopped her and kind of dragged her. He had a knife in his hand. I remember that,” Karissa said. “I remember going to the bathroom and seeing a scratch on my mom's throat and that's what scared me”... James Turner's children have been terrified since the night they witnessed their mom and grandmother butchered in front of them. They won't feel safe until he's behind bars.  In reality, they've lost their mom, grandmother and their father. Their uncle Darren and his wife are now raising the four precious children. Turner is a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Signal Corps. Law enforcement officials believed he could be armed and considered him to be extremely dangerous. 1. And if he didn't murder them the police would have done NOTHING! So many people are still ignorant to the fact that most woman who die actually die because they left or tried to. And when you go to the police to help, they think you are crazy. My (soon to be) ex-husband walks the streets and tells people he is going to kill me yet the police think I am going crazy and if he was to ever do something he would have already and that when I see him outside my house I need to record it etc. (I never have time to) and when we finally saw him outside my parents home...the police did NOTHING! I hope we don't forget these 2 ladies and people start to open their eyes to this!
