[FL] Officer Hupp said to be victim of dv, found at crash smelling of alcohol & told by police to walk home? Wife arrested.

...Officers found the off-duty policeman assisting at the scene of a car crash... He was not involved in the crash, police officials said, but did smell of alcohol. He was advised not to drive home due to the stress of the situation and involvement of alcohol. Ric Hupp walked away...

This is one of those cases where you know right away there's more to the story than any clue given by the news.

EDGEWATER –An off-duty police officer found himself on the other side of an domestic violence investigation as the victim after his wife was accused of hitting him in the face with the back of her fist. Lisa S. Hupp, 45, told Edgewater police that she and her husband, New Smyrna Beach police Officer Ric Hupp, had been arguing Monday afternoon, but it was not physical. However, Ric Hupp said his wife grabbed his jaw and backhanded him across the face, the arrest report said. Ric Hupp, age not available, left the house and after calling his supervisor, contacted the Edgewater Police Department, the report said. Officers found the off-duty policeman assisting at the scene of a car crash at Roberts Road and South Ridgewood Avenue. He was not involved in the crash, police officials said, but did smell of alcohol. He was advised not to drive home due to the stress of the situation and involvement of alcohol. Ric Hupp walked away from the crash scene, the report said. Edgewater officers found Lisa Hupp at the couple’s home, where she was arrested on a domestic battery charge. She was taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail and held without bail until her first appearance before a judge this afternoon. [LINK]

I have several questions but for starts how did Ric get TO the crash scene if he didn't drive intoxicated, and what were the indications that abuse had happened - that Lisa was lying and Ric was telling the truth?
