Meredith police have agreed to dismiss the simple assault charge against Frank Jones, the Bow man recently chosen to be the new Salisbury Police Chief. Jones appeared in Laconia District Court for a scheduled arraignment Wednesday morning with his wife, Priscilla Jones, who police had charged him of assaulting, and his lawyer. "After a thorough review of the evidence, the charges against me have been dismissed by an order of the court and not police politics," said Jones after Judge David O. Huot ordered the charges dismissed. "I have been exonerated. I've served honorably in law enforcement for 26 years and would never commit any crime, especially against my wife," continued Jones, who said he looks foward to serving as the part-time Police Chief in Salisbury. Meredith Police Lt. Keith True said the department chose not to go forward with Jones' prosecution because its investigation and a revised victim statement indicated there was no crime. "Sometimes there is probable cause for an arrest but there is no evidence of a crime," said Jones' attorney, Robert Hemeon. Meredith Police arrested Jones July 24 at around 6 p.m. and charged him with simple assault after responding to a call from Clearwater Campground for a reported domestic dispute. Police affidavits indicated Jones' stepson, Steven Pieroni, called police to report Jones had "restrained and assaulted" his mother, Priscilla Jones. Steven Pieroni and his brother Sean Pieroni told officers Jones and his wife had been arguing all week and their argument culminated when Jones allegedly tried to take some car keys from his wife's purse and she didn't want him to. Steven Pieroni said he was outside their recreational vehicle when he saw his mother trying to leave but Jones was blocking the door. He said he saw his mother "pulled away from the door" and she screamed for Jones to "stop touching her." He said shortly after she screamed, he called the police and Jones allowed her to leave. He said Priscilla Jones, Sean Pieroni and he went to a nearby camp site where they waited for police. During her initial police interview, Priscilla said she and Jones had been arguing all week and he had "been giving her sons a hard time" and she was tiring of it. She said when she told Jones he couldn't have the keys to her car, he "grabbed her purse and her left arm." When she called for her sons to help her, she said Jones let her leave the R.V. and swore at her. She allegedly showed police a bruise above her left elbow, telling them she "had not hit her arm against anything before the alleged assault and [it] had not been there earlier in the day." In a later written and notarized statement, Jones recanted her original statement and said she got the bruise during a water-skiing fall two days earlier. "At the time, I was embarrassed, confused, overwhelmed and pressured..." she wrote describing her state of mind during the initial police interview. She also said she believed her son Steven called police as "payback" to Jones because the two don't get along and Steven blames Jones for Steven's arrest "six or seven years ago" in their Bow home. Jones also works part-time for the Belknap County Sheriff's Department and has been on administrative leave since his arrest. "I would like to continue my service to Belknap County, but that is up to the sheriff," Jones said when asked about his future with the department. Sheriff Craig Wiggin said his department is conducting an internal review of the Jones case. Generally speaking, he said if an employee breaks no department rules and doesn't commit a crime, there is no reason he or she couldn't continue working. Priscilla Jones is employed by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department. [Source]

  1. I am in a similar situation, my fiance is in jail for violation of probation because of our fight. I told police he hit me and I had a black eye, now I am trying to recanted my statement, the police said I would go to jail that I lied to them (and the believe he hit me)and his probation office won't call me back and she and the police do not like my fiance. We can not afford a lawyer, what steps can we take before going to court?

  2. I don't have any expertise on how to recant a black eye. Are you wanting to say that you fell now? Are you in a state that has a policy of prosecuting with or without the victim's testimony?

I'm curious and not judging you when I ask this - but why are you marrying a man you have physical fights with? It really does get worse, and not better.

Stay in touch, and feel free to email me directly. I won't try to change your mind about court but maybe can reflect with you on the different pieces of this.

    Much love,
